_HighVoltage_
Here is the problem - my 94 850 has 8 factory speakers, right? The car has an aftermarket Alpine head unit, and the guy who has done the wiring has cut the wires and connected them to the head unit connector, maybe he didn't want to buy an adaptor. The problem is only 4 of the speakers are working - the door speakers. The ones on the dash and the rear deck are not working. There are wires coming from the rear speakers, but where do they go? I saw that from one of the speakers come out a brown and and brown/black wires. Then I went to the dashboard and there are two large bundles of wires coming to the stereo...but no brown ones. Where did they go? I know I should check the entire lenght of the wires, but before I do that I decided to ask here - maybe there is something I don't know about the wiring of the Volvo? (I was really hoping that the wires for the other speakers would be just cut and will be sitting disconnected somewhere in the bundle. That didn't happen.) _HighVoltage_
Nevermind I think I found where I was messing up. Sorry for posting. A mod can delete the thread.
_HighVoltage_
Ok...nothing has been solved yet. How do I get access to the dash speakers? Do I have to remove the whole dash? I was hoping they would just pop out like on a VW, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
TRACStar
Ok...nothing has been solved yet. How do I get access to the dash speakers? Do I have to remove the whole dash? I was hoping they would just pop out like on a VW, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Pop off the grills and pry the little plastic rivets out and they come right out. Be careful with the wires if u drop them in the dash they can be a PITA to get back out
_HighVoltage_
Ok thanks! I opened them. One of the speakers is not connected at all, and I can't find the connector (like you said, it has probably fallen somewhere inside). The other speaker is connected...but doesn't work. Now the next issue is with the rear deck speakers. At first I thought they weren't working at all. And I was right about one of them. The other, however, plays but very very very quietly. I tried switching them, to see if the wiring is the problem. It isn't. The speaker works (quietly) both in the left or right connectors. So...before I go and buy new speakers, is it possible that my deck (aftermarket Alpine) simply can't send enough power to those rear deck speakers, and that's why one of them is so quiet? The door speakers all work brilliantly)
_HighVoltage_
Ok...speakers are blown. So what should I get to replace them. It is probably impossible to find a set of 8 oHm speakers, so they will have to be 4 oHm. What if they are 2, will that be a problem? The door speakers are the original. The head unit is aftermarket Alpine.
