michael-s70
on topic of glt vs t5... what price range would i be looking at to make my glt a t5? not looking for it to keep up with my t5m but if i could that would be great.
ozzimark
I see, I see. OK so if i want torque, I want a GLT. Are there any cool options on T5 that'd I'd be missing out on? Sorta. GLT gets into boost sooner (I believe stock specs say 1800rpm vs 2700rpm for when it hits the peak torque plateau), and responds faster, making the car 'feel' faster, when it's not actually. Naughty33W
max torque on my 2.4T is 1850rpm
bum2kev
BUT if you get a t5 ecu and a 16t it will be faster than a t5. ecu i think will run you 150$? 16t in good condition is ~300 so for ~500$ in bolt ons your car would have some nice tourque and flow as much as a t5
ACES70
My these are some general responses. What year car are you looking at? Thats going to make a big difference in how much its going to cost you to bring a GLT up to "faster than T5" spec GLT's come with 13g pre 99 and 13T post
Naughty33W
i believe he was mostly trying to understand the fundamental differences between the two , and what has a better moding future i wish i could find something besides a glt , i look at craigslist (local and tucson) every single day , and i haven't seen anything but glt's for sale --- my S60 came from a dealership

ozzimark
getting there fast = the car is faster Very true, how fast a car is also depends on where "there" is, which is the point I was trying to make. Yes, in some situations, the GLT is faster. But in other situations, the T5 is faster
DMoney
As of right now, Im looking at whatever I can get my hands on. What is like the "perfect setup" in s70 world? Like for saabs in the 9-3, its a 99 9-3 3/5dr with a stick. 99 was the last year for T5 tuning then they moved to t7 and its got MAF so its almost worthless. CoRalV70
What the hell kind of name is Dmoney??? best S70 would be a coral 98 S70T5M SE for you, because then id be jealous I still say get a GLT though, i want to fuck with another one. greekone
The GLT and T5 are both good cars , but with either one make sure to get a 1998. Also, to transform a GLT into a T5 you'll need white injectors on top of the T5 tune and 16T.

Why does he need to make sure and get a 98 ? and why the hell would you get a tune for an engine thats smaller, running higher boost, and has less compression ? Ive never understood that recommendation on this forum.
--Aaron--
Interesting thread.........that is all. A GLT is nothing to be scared of, I say go for it. Just be sure you mask the GLTness to confuse people. They can be and are very fun cars with bolt ons and tunes. Oliver at ST has a few fun custom maps specifically for GLTs. :D

I am just using my 96 T-5 ECU to get rid of my SAS CEL light...
ACES70
To get higher boost and a better fuel map for higher boost? I am just using my 96 T-5 ECU to get rid of my SAS CEL light... I was being sarcastic. Yea you get higher boost and a fuel map that is "better" but the timing is way off the power and fuel doesnt come in when it should for the quick GLT. It feels very fast up to 2700 rpm becuase the fuel is way low for the period between 1800 and 2700 when the GLT is on boost and the T5 isnt. Run a 14 afr and anything will feel really fast, but its not going to be safe. Interesting thread.........that is all. A GLT is nothing to be scared of, I say go for it. Yes people go for the 98 because its easier and costs less, not becuase its faster or better. Twin cam vs. CVVT you tell me which breathes better and is therefore more efficient in its power delivery. Oh Aaron you edited
