Fake-R
Dan, there was a 98+ GLT SE at the U today. Gorgeous car. Had Heliums on it, and just looked really clean. I'm still saying 97 850 GLT or 98 S70 GLT. We have my 15G, that you can use. If you got a 98 GLT with the 13C, I think they may have even been angle flange, but am not positive. If they are, we just pull off the cold side of the 13C, put on my 15G cold side, throw in my old orange injectors, get you a tune, and it's done. 1337-850
It would have a 13g, straight flange if 98 and why put in oranges? The stock GLT reds flow slightly more at 315 rather than the oranges 310...

ACES70
99+ flow more. That is becuase the cycle rate for ME7 can be as fast or as slow as it needs to be. The oranges are much more accurate in combination with the ME7 system. Yet another reason why 99+ is the way to go Just the combination of that along with the Angled flanged and 13t on 99+ also makes the stock 99 or 00 much faster than the 98 and down glt

RZT5
good question. It doesnt make sense, but the 98's do seem to pull a little harder for some reason
shanehutton
Electronic throttle lag might cost a tenth or two. I do remember a press - wait - accelerate with the drive by wire.
HtownTurboBrick
99+ isn't actually the way to go. The head design on the 99+ is better, it's a big reason why I swapped to a 00 motor from a 98. However the ETM design and the intake manifold negate a huge proportion of the proper airflow required to make use of the better head. The intake ports on a 99+ block is 20% larger then a 98 block, but look at where the ETM placement and how the air flows through the craptacular design of the intake manifold and it's all useless. ETM is also a big problem, they're prone to failure, it's not IF they break, it's WHEN they break. The design is completely flawed and will eventually give you problems. Volvo can warranty it all they want, but if someone dies from an accident because their ETM went out while crossing a train track who's gonna pay for that? And how are they going to prove it was the ETM? ME7 is also a incredible waste of a good thing, down time for tuning because of the married systems, and the expense to tune it to the same level as any other Motronic system seems a bit ill advised. Even though the system is much more intuitive and can provide much more parameters in tuning, nobody really makes any use of it. Turbo Tuner, if properly tuned by a specialist, has a greater advantage then anybody tuning for ME7 and still costs less. CVVT on the 99-00 is not a performance system, in reality it's a fuel economy system. We proved that by activating it during dyno via a switch and the car actually lost power when the VVT exhaust cam was activated. That's why CVVT was disabled on my motor and we never pushed forward to making a solution for it, the motor was all around better without it. So yea, for the best value and reliability you want a 98 T5M and call it a day. If you want to make use of the better head design on the 99+ motor, then buy a 99+ head and replace the 98 head and remove all ETM associated parts and replace them with the throttle body parts. Dmoney, you want tq out the wazoo? You buy a 98 T5M and you do my swap, Speedtuning 17psi tune, and 3" DP & exhuast. You can change the game and go bigger turbo, but you'd probably be just as happy on the stock 16T.

RZT5
Ur on the otherside of the country!!! If u wanna drive it here...besides its has 187k miles on it... Its in ontario canada but registered in the US, I think a 6 hour drive from PA... I didnt take it with me out west. It does have 187k on it though... thats why people dont seem to want it even though it has amazing compression and the most complete stage 0 you could ever imagine. Good choice on a 98 T5M though! you wont be dissapointed 274whp 340ft lbs. 17psi 3inch cat back, fmic, dyno tuned ST tune is all im saying.
