MikeG
What are you guys doing these days about screen glare? I built one back in 2005 and I pulled it out and sold all the stuff in 2007... haven't missed it a bit. The screen glare and touchscreen input was way too much BS to put up with. It worked well enough, but my goal was to drive audio in the front and video in the rear (for the kiddos) and it never really seemed like it would ever feel "finished". MikeG
tint on windows and LED backlit screens should suffice. Negative (at least for me). I have pretty dark windows, and all I could see was the shirt of whoever was sitting in the passenger's seat. The sunlight coming in through the windshield is the light source that causes all the problems. Best of luck, though! I'll be interested to see it when you're done. Dan A
It is CONSTANT work. I installed mine a couple months back and Im still putting a lot of hours. The hardware, aside from the screen bezel fab'ing is the easy part for sure. The software is constant fiddling. The glare is the worst at mid-day. Acceptable for me otherwise. But I'm eying the $600 transflective screens.

I bought a DVD unit with nav and iPod input, hooked the rear screens to a separate iPod input with headphones, and called it a day.

Serge
99.9% of all aftermarket decks look like shit to me. They basically scream "look, I threw this in and it doesn't match anything in the car." With the carpc, you have 100% control over it. Can a DVD deck stream MP3s online? Can it tether to your phone via BT for internet access? Can it read OBD-II? There are a million more features. I've had mine for 3 years now and it gives me no headache. I update maps for the navigation every year (or whenever they come out). The navigation software I have reads street names and an excellent bird's eye interface. I have DivXs (full movies, TV episodes and music videos) on it for when I'm bored in the car.

Bazarvospeed
wish one day I can get something like this going. but for the glare , I hear theres this film out that reduces glare and makes the screen more visable? like the HD glasses that you see on TV
Serge
Glare is rarely an issue, and even less so if you have tint on your car. Although sometimes it becomes extremely difficult to read the screen when there is direct sunlight on the screen. The solution is to get a Transflective screen and touchpanel, but they run in the $500-700 range.
