i connect my web book to my lcd in my living room and streem movies and shows off it....and i can take it anywhere i go.

BTW looking at this....lets say i had i had an old laptop with a busted motherboard but a good screen. is there a way to make it work?

Agreed looks good.

Back in the day (well before i could drive =p) i had a micro ATX mobo socket 370 i always wanted to make into a carputer...was gonna use a wood box ..i just never had the 120V inverter for the car or a standalone LCD..and when your 11 years old you have no $$$

I'm curious how small Micro ATX boards are nowadays... but this is my plan..only because the Carputer is great and all, but , if i make one, it'd be too powerful and probably wouldnt fit in my car cause i'd want too much power in it =p QUAD SLI IN MY CAR WAT?!?!?!

But seriously...I would do the screen to a VGA or if possible DVI, and use a netbook in the glovebox...I know that seems LAZY, but, i think since i can get a netbook for 300$, and since well...gaming *might* be a tad difficult while driving ;)

It looks good irregardless. I'd run a PCMCIA SoundCard with the netbook of course...and , people fail to realize that with a 7.1/5.1 card, i could essentially make TRUE surround inside my car...Buy 3.5mm -> RCA out cords...If you have the newer cars with the whole dolby thing, could wire or split the sub/center channel or just run center to the front dash speakers. Another Amp for the rear and another amp for the front!

Now, use ASIO, get a good computer equalizer...you will have some of the best quality audio imho...mainly because you have 3 seperate amps and 3 seperate preamps and the ability of an awesome sound card and 24 bit sound and yea...Or just use a 4.1 like below and ignore the center channel =p

So many possibilities with a carputer...

Do you have a way to use the screen for other things like ..oh i dunno...A PS3!??!?!

lol come on who hasnt wanted to be playing guitar hero while their buddy is driving...imagine how cool youd be standing out the sunroof, playing on your guitar...

a college student can dream right? =p

Now, that IS a tease! Was that package deal a one off or does the seller offer it on a regular basis?

It was an accident :P Seller didn't know what he was selling, and I ended up with a smoking deal!

you dont have a single good post

Alex looks great wish I had the computer know how to do something like this  when are we going to see pictures of the new car?

Soon enough after the MT swap!

:P

Mini-ITX for the win. 6.75" x 6.75" is the Mobo+CPU Footprint.

Just wow...

Its amazing how far we've come =p I could build an entire PC in the SC-815 box...just amazing really =p

I took the Climate Control out of my 93...for various reasons (It broked-ddd) ..maybe i should just build a computer in there =p

Or better yet, get my hands really dirty, make a pure digital A/C unit that you run off your carputer =0 If only i had the time to research it all, build it all, and the knowhow to build it all..gimme a few years ;)

Makes me glad im doing computer engineering lmfao...shoulda known when your 11 years old and you want to have a computer in the car...might be the right path =0

Very impressive none the less. Only thing i would change, is to a liquid filled HD ( i understand you used the Solid State for bumps and vibrations..makes sense) , or modify that SSD to be bigger...or lol..even easier then that, you can build a 10 socket SD reader, and have 10 SD drives run off the USB..be perfect for the non-essnetials like music etc etc...

Go that route, then everytime you run out of room, pop another 32gig card in, and go go go =0

I have to say these things look awesome, I've been thinking about putting one together since the one's I have seen are outrageously priced. I just have to figure out if there is time, how long do these usually take to put together?

I've been looking out for a decent touch screen in a double-din housing, that opens to reveal a DVD drive slot/SD card slot/USB ports. If I could buy that for a couple of hundred then that would tip me over the edge - all I've seen so far is noname chinese product with no support. Or am I wrong?

I don't want USB sticks hangin out everywhere :P

I wanted to buy a large SSD disc to use for storage, but that just didn't fit within the budget :P Price out a 16GB 2.5"!

I'm about 8 hours in right at this moment.

Not sure about the flip open stuff. FWIW, my screen is Taiwanese made and came with no support, but they are built decently well.

screw mtx, go ptx. Had a couple boards we installed into some screens as photo screens (20" photo displays are really pricey), they were ridiculously small, like 5"x5"

Haven't looked into the picoatx stuff lately.

How does the VIA stuff stack up against Intel?
