Clarion ADB340MP Website

I can get this brand new on eBay for under $250. I like the fact that it is DD (fills the space), plays tapes (I still have some), plays MP3 Cd's, has a rotary volume knob, and decent sized buttons. Is it worth purchasing? Are all Clarion units well-made?

Also, I have a Pioneer HU installed right now. Will I be able to just unplug the Pioneer and plug the Clarion in? Or do I need a different wiring harness?

it should plug right into the back of the deck....clarion is usually a good buy...they make quality products....if you order from Crutchfield (if you're so inclined), they will send you a wiring harness with it....however, since you already have an am hu, another am hu should just plug right in.....

as far as i know, the clarions and pioneers dont share the same kind of plug int he back, but at the most you have to do is cut the pioneer harness out and splice in the clarion, this of course, is assuming yuo use a wiringharness adapter when it was installed the first time?

as for the headunit itself, i am not a big fan of the double dins myself, it hink that they end up being so big and shinny and lit up that it really looks outta place in the dash of our volvos, but hey, thats why we all have differen tastes right?

now, my opinion is this:

if you plan to add an aftermakert system at some time (amp, spekares, sub), then i would look to a higher performing headunit, with at least more preamp outputs...

if you know you will just use the headunit to power speakers, then this headunit is fine.

clarion is comprable in my experince with pioneer interms of price/performance, though i have had some issues with their indash flip outs jamming gears, and skipping issues...but overall, pretty good.

Gregg, what are "tapes" ? :D I'm kinda with bing on this one.. I've never had much liking/sucess with double DIN HU's... And no, it won't just plug and play. But Pras is right, they'll give you a free harness, but at Soundomain Is this deck Satellite Radio & MP3 changer ready? I know you're all jazzed about the MP3 changer! :) Kenwoood makes some nice HU's that are relatively cheap..

Ive always kinda liked double din units but they seem to be compromises lots of time.

It seems like if a mfr goes thru the trouble to make a double din HU then SOME mfr would put a freakin brain in that thing and some nice DA converters and high voltage outputs.

Time alignment, 30 band EQ, 4-8VDC preouts, digital in for IPOD or the like, changer compatible, phone integration, bluetooth, shine you shoes, wax the Vulva. Ya know, the good crap.
