MyCarIsRed
i scored my self two alpine two way speakers today, SPS-171a 6.5 inch (16CM DIN) 250w Peak 50w RMS IMP. 4 Ohms any one have these babies installed in their car? if so what are your thoughts on it? Good component speakers of any make will blow away the stock volvo system as far as fidelity and imaging if they're properly installed/located. I just swapped some 6.5" oversized pioneer components into the rear doors. If you can make it fit into the stock location and still keep the cone thing the speaker mounts into, the lower-end output of the speakers will impress you. Keeping that cone makes a HUGE difference. I had to doctor the mounting ring that came with the speakers to fit over the screws and cone for the old speaker (remove speaker, replace screws and cone) as well as trim a *tiny* little chunk from the plastic cone where the new speaker magnet was hitting. I mounted the tweeters on the door just below the lock pin. Very happy. Those Alpines should sound even better. There's space inside the door just in front of the speaker location to secure the xover as well. Just make sure to unhook or remove the other rear speakers. the system will be able to handle the reduced load (3.2ohm vs 4) but your new speakers will be underfed and the sound quality will suffer greatly.
