Speakers With Tweeters. Stock Tweeters?

ok so i got a pair of apline type s 5.25's for my front doors because one of my stock speakers blew out. Now on the box alpine recommends disconnecting stock tweeters because the alpine's have built in tweeters. I know these speakers are pretty popular, so should i really disconnect the stock tweeters or just let them be? im sure someone else has run into this, so any help is appreciated.

They pair up with the door speakers within the headunit (stock hu yes?) to present a 4ohm load to the amp. You can leave them connected but your amp will see a reduced load (which will cause it to run hotter) and the speakers will receive an unequal % of the amp power (which will cause the front to sound rather tinny).

I'd recommend disconnecting them. They're paper cones, likely ripped around the edges due to heat, and probably sound like poo compared to the alpines.

I replaced my front stock speakers with MB Quart's, but I replaced my tweeters as well, since the paper was in pieces. I like the tweeters left functioning, it spreads out the sound. That's just me, maybe you want to try it out by disconnecting the tweets and see if you like it better with or without.

yea i just put the alpines in and i do like the sound better with the stock tweeters functioning as well but just to be safe im going to leave them disconnected. I do not have a stock headunit. i have a new jensen touchscreen dvd player/hd radio/ everything i need. (thank you ebay for being 125 dollars cheaper than best buy)

best solution is what i did. buy a cross over and a small 4 ch amp. run the stock door speakers and stuff off the amp and the oem tweeters off the head unit and crossover. right now i got a audovox flip out dvd running a total of 6 speakers in my doors (oem spot in front door and 2 new in the pockets of the doors, the 2 in the back,) and 10 tweeters (2 in the dash, 2 in wagon hatch, 2 on the back door and 2 on each of my aftermarket polk speakers). working on my amp and sub combo now. but to give u an idea my 12" is 3k watts max. so its all gonna flow together nicely.
