brick8
Thinking of picking up another wagon? Is there any consensus as to whether the older body style cars are more reliable than the newer ones? Are there specific trouble areas that I need to know about for the 1999? DHV70
well the 2001 models are notorious for having their transmissions fail... The 99's are generally crap <_<

rbodor3
depends on what you want to do, but generally yes. Parts are more readily available (aftermarket and oem replacements), mods will be easier, ecu tuning easier, you can switch out ECUs, etc. etc. all for pre 98. You're probably going to get a better price, too.
Chilled man
personally I would take the 01 and deal with the tranny issue its just sooo much nicer of a car lol
HtownTurboBrick
98>99 V70 so if you like that body style then go for a 98. Lol come to think of it, you did manage to pick 2 of the most craptastic years available

brick8
settled for a low mileage 2000. Needs tbelt and probably abs module rebuild. ETM has been replaced (yellow sticker), so I should have some time before it needs that again (I hope). Has some bent rims and steering wheel points right when going straight. Lol come to think of it, you did manage to pick 2 of the most craptastic years available +1 if you like the old body style (which I do) 98 is the year for you. its such a pity that they only made the 870 for one year, cause, really, its the best car :-D
loseR99
hmmmm. I just picked up a replacement for my 2001 S40. New ride is a 1999 V70R AWD Laser Blue. No mods, dealer serviced, 84,000 original miles. Seems like a very solid car, boosts eagerly and often. Whats the lifeline like on the AWD components? RickyRacer
I had a 01 v70 t5. When I first bought the car I had lots of problems with the tranny. After the problem was fixed I drove the car for about 50,000 miles, Problem free. Only other issue was the alternator . It was a very nice car.
