steve s
the wiring depends on where u want to put the amp, the sub, and the crossover. if u have a better idea of the layout, then u could get started with the lengths of the power wire, ground wire, rca wire that u need. pornkingofpasayroad
im gonna put everything in the trunk. amp, sub enclosure, crossovergonna put about a 4 cubic feet box. 2 cubes for each sub. would i still be able to have access to the spare tire with a box that big? anyone have some pic of some installs in 850 trunks? thanks
pornkingofpasayroad
another question:what is a better way to get an rca signal? from the headunit itself or getting a signal from the rear speakers?thanks
Kibim
Getting an RCA feed out of a volvo head unit is something i've never been able to do. Either i'm missing the point, or i have obscure headunits that don't have RCA out.The stock head-units do however have an Amp out socket, on mine it looks like a Ps/2 plug. if anyone has pin-outs for these, it would be usefull . I would imagine that you'd land up building your own cable to do this though, to get low-level inputs to your amp. This is by far preferable to the next option. You can buy a little conversion unit that you wire in paralell to the back shelf speakers that provided you with a 1vp-p RCA signal for your amp. The problem with such a device, or wiring procedure, is that your subs will only ever perform as well as the output stage amplification of your stock headunit. Frequency respnose etc will be limited. The 'make your own cable' route will give you the pre-amp processing, which will be far superior.4 cubic feet is quite big, you may struggle to get into the spare tyre well. But box design will play the biggest role.
BenW
In regards to the pin out. A while back some guy was selling that plug here on VS that would get you the 4 pre-outs (FL, FR,RL, RR). Then you could use that to run the amp.KIBIM, dont worry, you're not missing much , IMO the factoy signal is rubbish anyhow.
steve s
it is pinned already up top, u should really look into these pinned topics http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=549http://project850.no-ip.org/installguides/.../subinstall.htmhttp://project850.no-ip.org/installguides/...=ST&f=13&t=4665
Chris_R
Wow, that Orion HCCA amp and Boston 12s are going to REALLY overshadow the stock deck and speakers power-wise. You'd be best to get an 'amp kit'. they sell them on Ebay regularly and reasonably. I think even Wal-Mart carries them now. I'd say 20' feet of 4 gauge (I'm sure you'll be adding more amps in the future, if not that HCCA can use the 4 gauge) power wire. 4 feet of 4 gauge power wire and 15 feet of 'remote' wire. Honestly, I'd hate to see you blow up that fine equipment (or that fine car). I'd seek the advice of your local shop.-Chris
theunderlord
stuff i got: HEADUNIT stock←This is going to be your first problem. Why have all that nice gear, and use the stock deck? I've never understood. It's like putting rims on a Geo. There are so many NICE HU's that you can get for around 200 bones. And you know... christmas is right around the corner... Chris_R
It's like putting rims on a Geo.Hey, hey... Watch it now. Some people would say the same about putting rims on a Volvo. BTW, Geo's (well, the Storm (manu by Isuzu)) are a HELLUVA lot easier to make fast than Volvos. Do a search for Steve Lockett and Geo Storm. He got his into the 10s. (10.427 @ 137.43 and I don't think that was his best run!)Sorry, after spending over 10 years defending my Storm it's kind of a hard habit to break. -Chris
