Chris_R
Tough call... What part of Germany are you in? I spent three years in Karlsruhe. If I'd been (or at least fluently spoken) German I may never have left! Hot chicks, speed-zone free roads, hot chicks, world's greatest beers, hot chicks with lower/different morals than most American chicks... how can you go wrong? -Chris
JHEIII874T5M
personally... I would take the opportunity. Unless you have something/someone extremely special you are leaving back in Germany, I feel you should come to the states, even if just for a year or so to experience another culture first hand. ChuckV986
Why not? How long would you be over here? It's always fun to immerse yourself in a different culture. I really love Germany though, working as an engineer for Porsche Gmbh has always been a dream of mine. There are VERY VERY few American beers, even in micro-breweries that can compare to any of the beer from a German Brauhaus, let alone a good Dunkle Weißen....yum. My mouth is watering just thinking about it, despite the food poisoning Virgin Atlantic afflicted me with...This does give me a chance to plug Snake River Brewery in Jacksonhole Wyoming. Maybe the best brewery I've been to in the states! If you're ever in the area, make it a point to go.If you don't have a significant other, I vote you come here for a while. You'll love the cheap gas, and police tend to be pretty forgiven if you say "I am very very sorry officer. You see, I am used to driving on ze Autobahn. I did not realise that I was going too fast. I promise it will never happen again..." You'd be suprised how well that excuse works if you have a German DL....I should know. A friend of mine was visiting from Frankfurt a few weeks ago while he was NYC on some business for Deutsche Bank. Of course, I let him drive the car, and of course he drove it like it should be driven, the way he'd drive it on the autobahn. He got quite frustrated with the cars that didn't observe propper lane discipline... But anywho, he gets clocked doing just north of 100mph on rt78 passing a wobly tractor trailer. He appologized profusely to the officer, and explained that he was trying to pass the truck as quickly as possible, because it didn't seem to be staying in his lane, and in Germany he's used to driving on the Autobahn where high-speed passing is perfectly acceptable. He was just thinking of getting by the threatening driver, didn't mean to break the limit, etc etc, and he got off with a verbal warning.
ontheheel
i honestly would jump on the chance to live in a different culture for a while. chicago is a cool town, even though i haven't been there, i have some friends that grew up there. it's also arguably the most architecturally aware city in the US. i honestly want to go to chicago just to check out the architecture. junibunie
I say make the move, go to Chicago its always fun to stay in a large city. Its also good to try new places and cultures. Even though the beers and the roads are good, I actually think its a bit boring to live in Germany.
