personally... I would take the opportunity. Unless you have something/someone extremely special you are leaving back in Germany, I feel you should come to the states, even if just for a year or so to experience another culture first hand.

thats exactly my point. but of course its like jumping into cold water.

And of course i have a family to leave behind. but yet it wouldnt be forever, and as long as i am not married/ have no kids its a great opportunity. And i like the US, at least those parts i have stayed at for more than just a few days as a vacation. And it doesnt have to be forever, a year or two would be fine. Having had the experience. And - to be honest- its very good thing for you career to have in your CV.

Gotta love SAP.  I hear that the source code is all in German.  :)

hahah. thats a good one. "select, print, tables, loop"...all german.

It doesn't exactly work well for us, but I'm not sure that is SAPs fault.

it normally isnt. people who work with SAP always forget, that it cant of course be standarized for all companies. And when SAP doesnt work ist normally due to the "SHISHO-principle". Sh**-in-Sh**-out, thats how we call it. If you do not carefully define and engineer your processes on ANY ERP-system (not only SAP) you sooner or later get into trouble. and then of course its always the softwares fault, while the problem normally sits in front of the screen.

I'd say go for it.  Chicago is a great place.  Nothin like catching a Cubs game or da Bearz.

....im much more into baskeball. but still. bulls is alright with me. Cincinnati doesnt have a NBA team, has it?

...and thanks for the numerous nice replies. one may not like this or that (e.g. the beer), but your (the americans') hospitality is with no doubt definitely outstanding. thanks.

..and when i started this poll, i would have never thought that it would be so clearly in favor of Chicago. It really made me think again. So the poll definitely served a purpose.

Guest Mr. Norm

Take it from a resident, Chicago is a truly awesome town with much more to offer than Cinci. World class architecture, sports, museums, business and entertainment. A wonderous number of ethnic neighborhoods ranging from Indian to Russian.

This is not intended to dis Cinci, so pleze, no flames.

Florian :)

Hard call. Some things are very appealing about the US, others are not (no Ring, no Autobahn and a lot of PITA police doing speed checks ;))

For me personally I think it'd look at the money...how much you make relative to the cost of living somewhere. To move away they would better pay me extra ;)

Florian, would this be a permanet position or just a tempary deal, like 2 years or something?  If it was just a few years, I'd probably jump on it.

i could be permanent. But its of course up to me. So it wouldnt be that big of a prob if i just went home again after lets say 2 years.

and for the money thing, i more or less get the same i have now in Euro. I dont really care if i get more now, cos i rather consider it an investment for the future. If i go to whatever place after that with so called "internationational exp", it will def pay off for me....

.....Ever thought of stripping a s60R? :P

Well the SHISHO principle is well known here too :)
