You've got maybe an inch of depth, tops. Looks like this: The center AC duct is right there. Honestly, the OEM driver is a decent two way. For a center channel, it handles mids and highs fine. This is my old one, with a snapped off voice coil magnet: PN: 8622157 The new version comes with a bolt through the magnet. I'm guessin' I wasn't the first person with this problem... BTW, does anyone know what the other two brown and black wires do? Mine were cut when I bought it. EDIT It's a 5 pin cable, mine has 4 wires connected, pin 2 is N/C Has anyone done this? I have a 3990 dash and apparently center speaker dash tops don't come in this color. So I go two-tone ( ) or hack up another dash... dude seriously tan is tan +1, looks like an after thought. Did discover that my speaker was shot, the top magnet had silver dust all over the place and was totally disconnected from the speaker cone. Now, here is the question, my old beige speaker grill was badly discolored. I looked online and found three different colors, beige, gray, and granite. I want to replace all dash speaker grills with a darker color, will the granite or gray work better with a beige dash? Anyone have pics of the difference between gray labeled interior parts and granite colored? would be helpful. Also found replacement original speakers with the new style cone for $87 online. I've just paid to become part of the CCC (center channel club), not to mention the OBIGTROMD (Oh Bugger I've Got To Rip Out My Dash) gang and I'd like to have the info at my fingertips. As for the parts, I found them at Tasca Volvo center channel speaker pn: 9472027 superseded by part number 8622157 as for the speaker grill, they are easiest to find if you look for 1999 C70 parts, look under the collision section, click instrument panel, then sound system, speaker grill, dash center, etc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's exactly how mine looked when it arrived...grey growth of doom everywhere. Plus I agree with your point, there is surprisingly little room under that grille. beadgc23 Posted November 6, 2009 Report Share Posted November 6, 2009 Well, my center channel speaker arrived today (magnet with a center screw) and I installed it...interesting...running off the HU 25W amp I wan't expecting too much, and it does have the same "close to distortion" sound as the factory tweets, but turned down & blended and the Dolby ProLogic system comes alive. Suddenly there's actual front/rear depth, the center stage holds together better and the midbass from the center (yes, no joke) pulls bass forward onto the hood very well. Turning it down again was a real disappointment! I'm going to try patching in a spare Boston tweeter to match the front components and see if that improves things but otherwise I'm more than satisfied. Note - The "secret" 5 band eq doesn't seem to affect the center channel - anyone noticed this? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
