Hello, I have been having problems with my check engine light on my 2000 V70R Awd. First code I got was a bad mass air flow sensor which i replaced. The light turned on again, this time it was a bad 02 sensor which i also just replaced OEM parts. Know the check engine light turn on again bad catalytic converter Code P0422. I started looking for a vacum leak instead of replacing the catalytic converters. I found a vacumme leak on a hose that goes from the intake to the intercooler. I got a new hose from the dealer and installed it but the light turned back on again same code p0422 catalytic converter. I called for a price on the catalytic converter from the dealer my cost is like $900.00. I also called my local muffler shop he said he can do it for $300.00 installed 0bd2 cerftifed for Ca. I drop the car off and he called me a few hours later, the aftermarket catalytic converter is not the same as stock. It is way smaller then my stock catalytic converter and it has no hole in the middle for the rear 02. I called magnaflow and they said my engine family is not recommended so I have to go factory.

Has anyone use the aftermarket catalytic converter? My other option is a catalytic coverter for another car, but it is a 3" catalytic coverter about the same size as mine and has the hole for the 02 sensor. Im just not sure if it will turn off the check engine light. I dont want to buy the factory if i dont have too. Plus if I get the 3" cat I can run a 3" down pipe and exahust.

I would appretiate any feed back if anyone has ran into this problem please let me know what you have done. Thanks

You could go catless or gut the cat. I did the that. Then use a spark plug fouler and drill it out so it is used as a spacer for the rear o2 so it will not throw a code.

You need a rear 0/2 installed period and the issue with the aftermarket cat's is there is not enough elements to satisfy the rear 0/2 parameters reading to the ECM.

Ca emissions IMO your pretty much boned but have no experience with CA IM testing.

I am going to get the rear o2 sensor tomorrow. Im already knee deep in this car whats another $200.00. I dont think its can be another vacume leak because the car idles perfect. Heres a small list of what i have done to this car in the last 3 weeks since i owned it. I have not even drove the car for 1 hole day. It seems to run great other then the check engine light.

All 5 coils

spark plus

radiator

upper motor mount

lower motor mount by t belt side

mass air flow

front o2 sensor

brakes rotors(cross drilled & slotted) & pads front & rear

tranny flush with Oem oil

Transfer case (drain and refill)

Rear end (drain and refill)

Coolant (drain and refill)

Power steering (drain and refill)

B plus cable(from battery to fuse box)

front brake clips(missing)

front control arms

front sway bar links

front inner and out tie rod ends

hose from intake to intercooler

tires Yokohama avid

Wheels caps

thrid seat

alignment

Im sure there somthings i forgot.

ipdusa.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=4174&strPageHistory=search&numSearchStartRecord=21

try one of those to get the rear o2 sensor away from the exhaust stream. the rear o2 sensor will detect less oxygen in the exhaust stream than the front o2 sensor and that in turn will fool the ECU that the catalytic converter is working w/in spec.

google "o2 sensor spacer" if you want to make your own.

I changed the timing belt on my car and it runs even smoother. I drove the car about 400 miles since i took the cat off and did the timing belt. The check engine light turn on again. Code p0422 and know a new code p1238. The car still runs great with the light on. I turned it off, but im sure it will come back on. I think i need to put a cat back on, or mabe chip the computer. The turbo spools up very fast with out the cat. I think the computer if reading to much boost. No vacume leak either. Any ideas?

I haven't heard of the dealer needing a core for the Cat. I guess they want to recover the precious metals in it but that sounds fishy.

Have you tried simply replacing the gas cap? It may not be the 442 code, but one of the 44x codes is due to an evap system leak which often is a faulty gas cap.

Worth a try before replacing the cat.

I called another dealer and they told me the same thing about the core. I work for Honda in the parts Dept. Honda does not ask for them back, but if they leave it i have no problem sell it to the core guy. lol

I only used 1. I was talking to a tunner today, they also told me to put 2. Im going to put 1 more.

I am having second thought about finshing this car. Im thinking about getting a newer 1 V70R. I put a feeler in swedespeed yesterday. If i dont sell it i will go ball to the wall and finsh it.
