Are you getting power and acc signal at the radio connector? No other electrical issues?

swedishiron
I would unplug it from the power harness and let it sit overnight and plug it back in; That has corrected my SC-901 before when it acted up and wouldnt play from any sources. you may need a security code for the radio though
mk3less
today I had a chance to work on it. The radio is getting power and ground but is not getting ignition power. All the fuses are good under the hood. Is their another fuse location other than under the hood ?

All the fuses are good under the hood. Is their another fuse location other than under the hood ? it wouldn't be a fuse thing i don't think. The acc connector under the steering wheel has a brn/Or wire that goes live when key is in acc, it's the same signal the radio should be getting. See if it's getting turned on when the key is turned (i have a voltmeter running off this wire, so i know it works normally - there's a black ground wire in the same connector you can use). If no signal there then i might start thinking ignition switch (does the fan work with the key turned one click?). If there is signal there then you might just have a bad connection to the radio acc wire from the um... well, thats your quest. http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/service/850/SystemWiringDiagrams.pdf
mk3less
yes my fan works in position 1. I will have to look for this connection under the wheel tomorrow and check.
BEJinFBK
today I had a chance to work on it. The radio is getting power and ground but is not getting ignition power. All the fuses are good under the hood. Is their another fuse location other than under the hood ? Just to be sure, the ignition power is the yellow/violet wire in pin location 13 in the "A" plug on the back of the radio. Battery power should show up on two pins, #'s 4 & 12. ( Red/Black ). The fuse for that wire should be #32. Don't just look at it, put a meter on the fuse while the key is on. You should see power at BOTH of the little metal nibs on top of the fuse. There are no other fuses on the switched side, but there IS a relay. Does anything else not work? And have you tried the old "jiggle the ignition switch" trick? Just checkin'... And didn't you say that another Volvo radio DID work?
mk3less
no I put my radio in my wife's car and it work. You say theirs a relay. Everything else works in the car thats the only thing not working.

Everything else works in the car thats the only thing not working. The ignition activated relay provides power for several things besides the radio. What did you find using a meter to check both legs of the fuse? Can you confirm that there is no power on the yellow/violet wire at the radio with the key on? mk3less
yes. their is no power to the yellow/violet wire. so problem seems to be a break in the wire some wear. I just ran my own wire and tap it to the back of the fuse panel to the radio fuse.
