DouginDenver
I just did the rear brakes on my 2000 S40, and had never run into those screw in piston calipers before. So of course I did it with channel locks, but managed to put a hole in one of the rubber boots that seals the caliper. Anybody know if Volvo sells just that boot? Also, who sells the tools to screw in the pistons that isn't too epxensive? IPD?
rbodor3
sealing kit part number 30863321, comes with both the oring and the dirt guard seal. Just replace the dirt guard if you haven't been driving on it too long. Yes, Volvo makes a special tool. next time just drain the fluid before you work on the brakes (should do this anyway), and completely remove the caliper. MrWinkey
Napa,Snap on,Mac, all make caliper twist in depression tools ...on an individual one for your car, you will probably have the best luck with Volvo oem or say Ausenmacher/AST tools. CJones16
Just use a big C-Clamp, Leave the pad attach to the piston and use the C-Clamp to push it in Chris

DouginDenver
From the outside they look like any other piston. I tried the C clamp, but it didn't move so I went inside and Googled it and discovered they screw back in. Never heard of that before, nor do I know why they are made that way. Can't see the advantage. I've never seen a pic of one disassembled. One more reason I really hate the S40, but it's my kids' car. My C70 has all the shakes associated with a convertible, but feels like a tank compared to the S40, which just feels like a buzzy, noisy, cheap tin can to me. quote name='CJones16' date='14 October 2009 - 07:46 AM' timestamp='1255527976' post='1663210'] Ah..
