HeavyIron
I already had IPD's HD CBV Diagphram on a beta test and it has worked great. I just swapped out the stock spring which was rated at 8lbs for their red 14lb. One thing I noticed immediately was how much quiter it was. I didn't get the pssht whenever I barely tapped the throttle. Downside, when I really am on the throttle and get off quick it flutters - like pssh pssh pssh, rather than one smooth sound like it used too. Any ideas? When installing, I had to seperate the old spring and spring follower from the CBV. I thought it looked like a screw that held them together - it is NOT! (needless to say I broke it) It is a clip that must be squeezed together to be removed. So, I improvised and drilled out the center clip and used a machine screw and nut- seems to work. But, the flutter worries me. Has anyone else installed the red spring and what results have you had????
Ipd
How much boost you running? Got to be 20+ for the 14 lb spring. Otherwise the 10 lb spring is a better selection up to about 18 psi. For anything from 18-20psi depends on the setup... So anyway how much boost you running? Pics on this machine screw setup you did?

Pics on this machine screw setup you did? maybe that is my problem. Right now I am spiking to 20 and settling at 18. But I do not always drive that hard. No pic of the machine screw, but the cbv had a plastic post that rises from the centerthat you put the spring over and pressed the follower down on top of. The tip of the post had a squeez together barbed end that looked like a flat head screw from the top that retained the spring and follower. i broke off the entire post and put a really tiny machine bolt washer and nut (with the nut recessed in the follower) to replace the post I broke. I will be calling you today......
ean carr
try the blue spring, the 19t might not move enough air to keep the diaphragm open with the red spring. a flutter isn't any thing to worry about but if the cbv isn't opening enough you could experience compressor surge. Yellow95
The flutter he is hearing could very well be compressor surge. Gary
ozzimark
Yeah, definitely switch to the weaker spring, the fluttering (which as Gary said, could be your compressor surging too) will probably go away.
Ipd
Yup, always better to go slightly lighter with spring selection. For most folks the 10lb blue spring will be the best choice.

dublin14
Yup, always better to go slightly lighter with spring selection. For most folks the 10lb blue spring will be the best choice. When i called about the IPD 14lb spring, i was told its good for "up to" 21psi. If i should be running 20+psi for the 14lb spring then i was not told that? I run 18psi on my 18T. So does that mean i am running the wrong spring? should i change?

pio
Fluttering on release is compressor surge, it might be minor it might be major, either way its asking for a turbo rebuild sooner.
Ipd
^---- Agreed. The 14lb spring is good for up to 21 psi but I would not put it on a car running 18psi unless the circumstances warranted it. Given your setup the 10lb spring is a better choice. While it is ideal for 15psi it can handle up to 18-19psi again depending on setup. Long story short, always better to go lighter with the selected spring rather than go stiffer. BRB, off to flog the staff for not reading my tech emails
Escalante
I have installed the 14lb cbv spring on my 18T which has a RICA 18 psi tune. The heavier spring has slightly reduced the boost fade but has not completely remedied the situation. With the two times I have driven the car with this spring installed I have not had any fluttering issues. It runs between 15-19 psi when accelerating hard. I am considering getting the 10lb spring to see if there is any difference.
