HeavyIron
I was tired of even OEM plugs giving me fits at 20+ psi so I went on a mission to find a colder temp plug. After much searching, I ended up with an NGK R5671A-9. With the Jap plugs the higher the final number the colder (NGK 6E's are stock) While domestic plugs like Champion and Bosch the lower the number the colder the plug. Temp range 8 in Bosch are standard while a temp range 5 would be equivalent to these NGK's. You can see in the pic from the stock on the right to the racing on the left how much shorter the insulator is.
lookforjoe
I'm running NGK R5672a-8's gapped @ .031 (with MSD 6a) , which work great for over 22psi applications.
L8 APEKS
Temp range 8 in Bosch are standard Wow...those are hot plugs! OE on the VW Corrados are W6DP0 Bosch! So the Turbo Volvo uses a plug that's 2 heat ranges higher. Never seen a Turbo car use a Bosch 8 as standard before.

How hard is it to add the 6AL box? Does it work the same way as an old Chevy or is there anything special I need to know? Are you just running a Blaster 2 coil? Or do I just need to wait until Im getting real boost? think this may help with the Nitrous we just added?

(+)(-) to battery. cut wires to coil, feed into MSD6a. Output from 6a goes to coil, that's it. I use stock coil - I had blowout with the MSD Coil I bought from IPD, so I returned it. HeavyIron
I do not have the space you do since I have a full size battery plus the IPD short ram intake. So temporarily my 6AL resides in front of the battery. This was the best 15 minute (literally) mod I have ever done. I am running a .032 gap and it runs strong. Custom made Forge wastegate actuator with a 22lb spring arrives wednesday...

Did you get those plugs from Advanced Auto or something? I might give them a shot and see if my problem goes away

TorqueSteer
I noticed that the R5671a-9 and the R5672a-8 are non-resistor plugs. Any issues with that?
HeavyIron
I noticed that the R5671a-9 and the R5672a-8 are non-resistor plugs. Any issues with that? Mine work great! Too bad my misfires returned shortly thereafter. Turns out my cap & rotor were bad. I could roll into the boost and with the new plugs hold 19 psi without issue (whereas before misfires above 15) but if I suddenly floored it from 40mph it would misfire every time and only on cylinder 1. Ken from IPD asked me to check how fast my ign timing was advancing and it was going from about 5-6 degrees to 45 degrees almost instantly. He said he had the same problem and it was the cap for him also. I still need to check the resistance on my plug wires although they are IPD 8mm silicone with barely 5000 miles on (same mileage as cap & rotor) them. I will be calling Ken on monday to see if any software changes can be made to keep this problem from reoccuring
