Dave 54
Went to the yard today to nose around and came acroSs a couple Maxima's and Infinity's that were in really nice shape and have the Bose speaker systems. I tore into one and pulled a front door speaker to see what ohm they were and there were no markings other than Bose. There was a box mounnted next to it which had some kind of circuitry in it, crossover? I guess my question would be has anyone tried to install any of the 6.5" Bose speakers out of any of these vehicles?
850boostin
my previous experience is that bose has custom mounts for the cars they are in (At least in Mercedes and Acura), in order to get the speaker you would have to cut the surround trim. but since its built into the speaker the speaker usually becomes useless. I know its confusing but let me just give you and example, the mercedes speaker is 6.5 inches but the surround of it (plastic parts) is an odd shape that wont fit in any car other than the benz. You cant remove just the plastic part, its like a solid build with the cone and all mounted to the oddly shaped plastic.
beadgc23
I've always heard "no highs, no lows, they must be Bose..." When it comes to advertising budget, overpricing, doubtful "technology" and restrictive sales practice, they can give Monster a run for their money. I'd take infinity or boston anytime and get a much better deal.

johnloves850's
Yea stock Bose systems sound O.K. But if you really want a great system, I completely agree on Infinity components. Although if you really want to try something new, look for an e46 Bimmer with a Harmon Kardon system. My cousin has that factory upgrade in his 02 325 ix and I can't tell you how amazing it sounds. It makes pretty much anything sound incredible.
Dave 54
Thanks for all your advice. Thing is I would love to get some Infinity spearkers, but that's not gonna be going down til spring, Christmas right around the corner and 3 kids, play money kinda tied up right now. The reason I was thinking of the Bose is because I can get them from the JY for either free or for like maybe $5. I know some people don't like Bose, but I have the Bose Companion 3 for the CP and there home theater system and absolutly love them, think i'll give it a shot, after all they'll be vertually free. gilber33
I have the companion 3 as well and can say they are the best computer speakers I've ever owned or listened to. As far as home theaters, if you have exactly the right set up, they are great, otherwise, meh. But my buddy has an S4 with the Bose sound system in it and sounds AWESOME. If you can get the speakers out and try to make them work, I'd say go for it.

Get the wiring and the box, most likely both the crossover and amplifier. Since you can get them for so cheap I say it is worth it to try them out. The one's I can get are these(linked for example only), http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/INFINITI-G35-Bose-Speakers-6-FOR-03-05_W0QQitemZ270480817542QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Speakers?hash=item3ef9e9bd86 Guessing the box on the fronts are the crossovers, rears appear to be plug and play, so i'll just have to figure out how to make them fit in the fronts. Your amp would work, but not as well. Those boxes on the speaker look like they house both amp/xover. The amps are pretty tiny physically and normally on or near the speaker. Sounds like a fun project.
Dave 54
Thanks!!!! Gonna give it a shot, if it works i'll post a thread of progress and wire disection .
BEJinFBK
Most of the Bose systems don't even sound good in the cars that they were designed for... Not to mention the OEM stuff that came with funky speaker mounted amps and extra wiring. I'd run. Far and fast! But if you just hafta do this, wire it all up on the bench before you even touch your car. Be sure that he stuff even works. I'm guessing you'll wave off... Bose has made some pretty nice stuff over the years, but almost ALL of the car gear blows.
