Lower Sterring U Joint

Hey guys!

I wanted to know what are the symptoms of having the lower Steering U joint broken?? I know that years would cause this failure but what else might cause my steering to be kinda loosen when you turn to the side, like you feel like is off, loosen or not completely tight, I can't really explain it though, has anyone experienced this before?? I'm thinking is that part, can't really tell, any opinions would be appreciate it..

Thanks :D

the steering wheel will feel loose and sloppy, you might here some "clicking" noise. Crawl under the car with a flash light and watch the ujoint while someone moves the wheel back and forth slightly, only other thing could be tie rods or a bad rack(sometimes they loosen up and get sloppy internally)

great question. I have a little bit of.. play in my steering... not ALL the time just sometimes. Rack is not leaking.. PS pump is fine... fluid is fine... new inner and outer tie rods... so U-Joint is my next suspect.

Is it recommended an alignment after you change the U-joint and/or inner/outer tie rods?? Is it really difficult to DIY? any special tools??

well if your ujoint has been wasted for a while you might need an alignment when you replace it but most of them time ive never needed an alignment for just the ujoint. Tie rod ends, if you adjust them exactly how the orignal ones are adjusted and the car drove ok before then you might be fine without an alignment but there is a shop local to me that does good alignments for 40 bucks so i always have one done anyways. If your car hasnt been aligned for quite some time it might be a good idea anyways, esspecially if you have new tires.

My car was aligned when I replaced the right axle, but that was until my left axle broke on me (havent replace it yet, but I have it brand new from FCP Groton)...:0, thats when my left tire started to wear out dramatically! so I went ahead and bought 4 new bridgestones RE760 (they still being delivered), the clicking noise/play on my steering wheel has always been there since the day I bought the R, August 09, but I want to "fix" all the vibration and the steering on the car before alignment again...don't you think?

get all your suspension/drivetrain problems fixed before you get your new tires and then have an alignment done at the same time you have your tires mounted/balanced and it should be a whole new car :)
