BurgerBob
I did this to my friend's 850 today. It's extremely easy to install 6x9's in the rear deck of your 850, but I thought I'd make a little write-up for anyone struggling. This is not necessarily the best or cleanest way to do the install, but it works. Tools: - Dremel (Easiest for me...the cuts are simple enough that you can probably use a small saw) - 8mm wrench - Several torx bits - Soldering iron+solder or some connectors First, remove the 4 nuts holding the speaker in place. Second, undo the speaker connection. Now, remove the speaker. Next, undo the 4 torx screws holding the speaker holder together. Now, remove the stock speaker from the bottom half. It should have 4 torx screws holding it in place. The next step is to notch out the bottom half of the speaker holder to accept the larger speaker. I made 3 notches...your speaker may be different, so check to see where yours is making contact. Two notches on this side. One notch on this side. You may also want to reuse the stock audio connection. I just soldered the new speaker wires up to it like so. After that, secure the speaker and reassemble the speaker holder. When reinstalling the speakers in the rear deck, I found it easiest to align the two back threads first. Installed. It does look a little rough, but the headrest hides it nicely. Hope this helped...Enjoy!
db130
thanks for the write-up, for those that have unused 6x9s, this will come in very handy. 5x7s(and 6x8s) drop right in the factory speaker housings without resorting to the dremel discs. I actually didn't know that. Kind of makes me want to ditch the 6x9's.
