I have an Avital 4103 remote starter system that was just installed in my 855T. Is it possible to have the factory alarm (red light on top of dash) arm and disarm with the avital remote? Right now the avital remote locks/unlocks the car but does not arm the factory alarm. The Factory volvo remote still arms the alarm. Anyone out there have an Avital 4103 on an 850/70? Thanks. rp850 Posted January 2, 2010 Author Report Share Posted January 2, 2010 I'm not sure why the installer did not enable the avitel remote to arm/disarm the factory alarm. Do you know which wires I should ask him to connect? Seems like the remote just needs to pulse the arm wire of the factory alarm somehow. this car is really easy. why doesnt the remote starter arm and disarm the oem system? rp850 Posted January 2, 2010 Author Report Share Posted January 2, 2010 I figured it had to be pretty straighforward. For now I'll assume he just forgot somehow and ask him to correct it. By the way, this remote has the option to start the rear defog. They said that the type of rear defog switch in the volvo does not work with the avital so it could not be hooked up. I have a remote starter/alarm system and this is what it does from the remote. remote start a manual transmission cartransponder interfacelock / unlock with oem arm disarmgps tracking deviceopen and close convertible topopen trunkopen gas capturns on / off headlamp flashersturns on /off PA systemturns on / off Air Horn Systemturns on / off 6 head strobe light systemRPS unlock/lockturbo timertemperature sensorvoltage senseanything can be done. relays are your friend. if the defroster is a negative trigger the avital will be able to do it with no relays, if its positive...all that is required is a relay. i betcha that you headlamps flash with arm and dis-arm. thats just a simple relay and then only parking lights will flash. the things shops will tell a customer because they think they are stupid. i am not saying you are, just saying what the general mentality of shop owners. rp850 Posted January 3, 2010 Author Report Share Posted January 3, 2010 Thanks for the info which all makes a lot of sense. The headlights don't flash, only the parking lights. I will ask about the rear defogger and factory alarm again and make them hook that up. It would be good to know whether the switch will require a relay or not. I'd also like to have them show me where the brain is under the dash in case I ever want to reprogram some of the settings on my own. Thanks again.
