misa
I recently got vol-fcr cable from e-bay for my vol-fcr software version 1.3. Good news are that i have access to all ecu's in the car including service light reset, but i have no access into engine ecu Motronic 4.4 & immobilizer 2. When i try to start communication with Motronic 4.4 & imobilizer 2 i get this message: Car is not responding. Are you sure that ignition is in posII.Wait 3 sec & try again. Car is '97 850 2.5 20v non-turbo with automatic transmission. There are two ecu's in ecu box,one for engine & other for transmission. Is it possible that i still have Motronic 4.3 in '97 850? One member from volvoforums.org.uk said that it's possible that i have a problem with diagnostic connection(k line)to the engine ecu. What this means? He also said that diagnostic line to ecu is switched by immobilizer and that there may be a problem with the connection or immobilizer itself. Car have aftermarket alarm system from the day i bought it back in 2000 and factory alarm system (Volvo guard) is completely removed. When i look under the dash where alarm system relay should be,there is just empty space. Sorry for long post,i needed to explain it in details.

HayaCruza
Is it possible that i still have Motronic 4.3 in '97 850? Yes, I can't say for sure but a 97 850 in the US has 4.3, it didn't change to 4.4 until the S70/V70 started.
misa
I think you answered you own question ... Can you be more specific, please? Yes, I can't say for sure but a 97 850 in the US has 4.3, it didn't change to 4.4 until the S70/V70 started. Maybe in u.s,but my car is for european market. According to Wikipedia in 850 20v non-turbo cars made in 1997 ,ONLY Motronic 4.4 was fitted.

misa
Why are the cars for u.s market so different from european market? Wikipedia says that in 1997 850 models ONLY Motronic 4.4 was fitted. Are you saying that this doesn't count when we talk about u.s market 850 from 1997? Hastings
Wikipedia says... Can't rely on Wikipedia... I know kids who go through and edit a single number or word to make info totally wrong just for shits and giggles -- and their little "robot" rarely catches such small edits. I said that two days ago but you didn't want to accept it because the all knowing Wikipedia said different. FYI, I have a 97 850 sitting in my driveway that has 4.3, yes it is a US model. project_850
I know my 94 GLE 10V N/A had a Siemens Fenix 5.2, and I'm pretty sure that the 2.4 20V N/A has the Bosch Jetronic 3.2 ECU. Haven't really toyed with either one, mostly just Motronic 4.3.
misa
Thanks guys...i'll try with a home made flash code reader. It works with Motronic 4.3,Fenix 5.2 & Jetronic ecu's. Is your '97 850 turbo or not and does your car have fuel pressure damper instead of vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator?
