Have you contacted the Woonsocket police department to file a report? If not, do not wait a day longer. Contact your local small claims court and file a claim against him. Note that usually the loser pays the cost of filing when judgment is made. He will be served to show up in court. Because you're so far away, the court will most likely try to solve the problem outside of court, however I believe he can eventually be required to show up in court. If he does not, you are usually awarded the win. Maybe some of our lawyers can offer better advice here, though of course no information here is a to be taken as any sort of official legal advice.
