HeavyIron
Finally got around to installing this. I have found a way to keep the car, but it means the car has to do 3 miles of snow duty 3 times a week for the wife to take the kids to preschool I hope the car will be alright, but it is better than losing it. The pulley install was a cinch especially since the motor was redone recently. Didn't even have to use a puller. Just a couple taps with a 4lb deadblow and it broke loose. Belt length is critical and I found that 68" is the magic number if you still run a/c. One challenge during reassembly was torquing the main nut to 135ft lbs. Engine was turning over before we hit that number, so I had to stick a punch through one of the holes to keep the pulley from turning. This thing spools so quick and the transient throttle response is simply amazing. Great improvements. No balance issues whatsoever, but I feel that is mainly due to having the entire rotating assembly balanced when the motor was built. Almost forgot - HUGE props to Justin for bailing my ass out. I could not figure out how to get the belt tenioner loose since none of my fittings on my serpentine belt tool would fit (the square hole is HUGE). Justin said use 3 pennies and a 1/2" breaker. I would NEVER have thought of that.....

Chilled man
Huge props given to you above- thanks for the 3 penny trick ;) talking about that ... I am getting some peices made to go on the end of a 1/2 socket and acutally fit into the Sbelt thing so you dont have to dick with the pennys. HeavyIron
Looks good! So, it really does make a tangible difference, eh? How much are they? What brand belt did you use? I got mine from Nick Choy for a song. ($100) I am not sure if they are still made or not. I have seen several unused ones for sale like mine. It seems a lot folks buy them but get cold feet when it comes time to put them on... I used a gates brand belt from NAPA. No belt I have found matches Volvo OEM for quality - not even close. So needless to say it is not a 100k belt...
854TGA+
I've been running one for years now, no issues. And I drive my car real nice I picked another one for my engine I am building now. Do you notice a difference, I sure did!

NChoy
I shoulda kept it and put it on my motor. But after spending about $5k on my motor alone, I didn't want to take any chances and have it come apart. And no, Unorthodox doesn't make them anymore. Probably not an issue, but after reading about third-order harmonics (it took a while for my feeble mind to understand all this physics crap), I was scared enough not to use it. Others have had good luck... some have not. Not sure what the difference is. Hope you are in the good luck category!

lookforjoe
picture of how this is used? just put the pennies on the sides & bottom of the opening & stick the 1/2 driver into it. Alternatively, use a large pair of channel locks & grab the serpentine lever from the outside. Newer tensioners have a different design. I shoulda kept it and put it on my motor. Considering I still have all the weight of the Dual Mass on the other end of the crank, I doubt it would make any (positive) difference to mine. I also have a UR pulley and i noticed a very nice improvement.
JCviggen
I didn't really notice anything when I put it on, but maybe the engine was making too much power to notice a few horsepower which I will believe it adds.
