i agree, pin this or at least something with the info. i just got an ipod for christmas and i'll be ordering one of these.

edit: does anyone know if there's an easy way to get a wire from the back of the headunit into the armrest storage area? I'd like to put my ipod there.

edit2: after searching i found some instructions for getting at the center console:

"1. Under the parking brake there's a plastic piece that you can pull out. It lets the parking brake go threw the hole when you pull the console up.

2. Open the armrest, take the plastic cover by pulling on it (it goes off easily), you'll see two torx screws, unscrew them.

3. Under the radio, at the front end of the console, under the ash tray, at the right of the lighter plug, where you can put coins, pull on the coin thing, there's one screw. At the lighter plug, there's another one. Unplug the three wires going to the lighter plug (two for the plug and one for the plug light). Then you can pull up the whole tray up and then towards you, I had to pull hard on it but didn't brake anything.

4. Under the tray, you see a bunch of wires and two big connectors, the console is screwed in front of those connectors with two torx pointing to the floor. They're on a kind of plastic bridge. Take'em off, those where the last ones to unscrew.

5. Pull the console up, the p-brake might get stuck, it's a bunch of wires getting stuck under the p-brake when you pull it up, just push them out of the way towards the front of the p-brake. Then you'll be able to pull the console up and get to the p-brake wire."

I just got the Blitzsafe for Christmas and am working out where I want to install my iPod in the car.

I'm considering moving most of the accessory buttons currently located to the right of the sterring wheel, over to the three blank spaces on the left. I'd then fabricate an iPod holder that will keep it in place right there. I may just stick it in the center compartment, but I've found that it's inconvenient to pull it out to change tracks/search for music, which I do frequently.

I've already disassembled the Blitzsafe box and my Monster power cable for the iPod. Rather than use a 1/8" to RCA connector, I'm going to wire direct from the iPod connector to a re-wired plug that fits onto the Blitz circuit board. The installation will be semi-permenant and should be very clean looking.

If only I could get simples functions going back into the iPod, like track skip and pause, I'd be much happier.

Nice going on the adapter for the stock radio, I was once looking at that too but decided just to get an aftermarket HU with aux in rca's...

I also have an ipod and my setup is basically:

(1) SIK IMP adapter

(1) Monster Y cable - RCAs to 1 3.5mm

(1)Belkin Leather Holster

That's basically all you need.

The SIK IMP adapter is cool because it hooks up to the aux in and the car charger.

The holster has a clip that you can stick anywhere in your car and then you can just dock the ipod right on it.

I did the install in my car stealth, got an extra cig. lighter charger and wired it up to the existing one. This way all the wires are hidden. I have the docking wire to the ipod come out of one of the dash switches (on the right side) and I can see the ipod easily when driving and go through music easily.

Anyway, I'll get some pics of what it looks like this weekend.

Here are the links for the products:

SIK IMP adapter: ($29)

http://www.sik.com/imp.php

Belkin Leather Holster: ($19 -- you can get this at CompUSA)

http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage...duct_Id=156247#

And well the 'Y' cable is up to you, I prefer Monster.

I just got a Myfi XM reciever that I intend to build a mount for beneath my radio and to the right of the shifter (sort of blocking the passenger side seat warmer button) in my 1998 s70. Running the antenna was easy enough and this Blitzsafe adapter will be a godsend since I had assumed that I would have to continue using a tape adapter.

That leaves power. The unit wants 5v dc, and I figure the best way to do this is to just buy a female cigarette lighter power adapter, plug the transformer that came with the unit into it, and wire it to 12v power somewhere in the center console or behind the radio. My question is, where is the best place to draw power from? Does anyone have a better suggestion on how to do this? My wiring and fabrication experience is in theatrical automation and I know essentially nothing about car audio and car electrical systems. I have yet to go exploring in the center console and would like to have a plan for how I will do this before I go ripping everything apart. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey Question for you learned folk out there - just got an ipod mini and have a 98 c70 with the SC901 head unit. What do i need to do a stealth install :

I want the ipod in the center console, and be able to control it thru the head unit controls.

The ipod should be charged whilst plugged in.

I should be able to skip forwards and backwards thru playlists, without having to use the Ipod controls - i.e. thru the stock head unit.

Do I only need this, the USA Spec Ipod interface?

USA SPEC IPOD

Will this do erything that I want?

I see the instructions above for how to run the cable under the parking brake and into the center console, so thats perfect, but i want to know what else I will need to complete this job.

One final twist to this, i have a UK Spec C70 - i'm assuming they are the same pretty much, as th head unit is the same. I have a CD aux port in the rear, and also, an empty aux type port marked dolby - whats that all about?

Also, is it possible to swap the connector cable on this unit to a white coiled type cable, similiar to this here?

Just would be nice to have.

Thanks all

first of all, scrolling through playlists...songs...such is IMPOSSIBLE with that usa spec. ive used all the interface's with aftermarket head units this past weekend and they are all DEAD slow to use. (alpine, pioneer, kenwood). the best way and only way to drive your ipod the way you drive it manually is to install the blitzsafe and just use your ipod manually, otherwise your gonna be looking all day for "dancing queen, by abba".

the usa spec will allow you to only play playlists and its still very slow. used it with a friends vehicle about a month back...he sold it after 3 weeks of use.

oh, and yes, the belkin are the best for hookup. it charges and controls songs both. you can pick them up on ebay for about 5.00 or less.

i just got my belkin installed last night. i installed it all behind the dash and also installed a 2nd cig lighter output behind the dash too therefore the stock one still looks stock and would work if i ever needed it for anything. i then ran a wire under the center console and ran the belkin dock connector plug out near the armrest area for plug into my ipod. therefore, while i am not in the car, simply put ipod into armrest. simple.

i ordered a blitzsafe, but since i went with an aftermarket radio, i dont need the blitz. if you want it, its yours. i paid 91.57 for it. its yours for 85.

good luck.

Thanks for the info! Its a shame that searching playlists etc is soooo slow - What are these interfaces like for quality of sound, and for simple skip forward and skip backword tracks? Whats the slowdown a result of - i'm assuming its the seek operation? I'm still keen on having one of these, just makes it easier to control the music, so i could be in the market for that blitzsafe you have. Can you simply connect the ipod to the blitzsafe, and use the volume control, and the next track / previous track controls on the head unit, and how quick is that? are we talking several seconds per skip?

Otherwise, i guess the belkin is just a RCA output? I'm in the UK and we have very little choice around these things at the moment - Which belkin kit are you using?

Thanks

the belkin i am using is the BELKIN F8V7058-APL. it plugs into the dock connector, and then into a cigarette plug and also has a 3.5 mm audio out port. i then plug that 3.5 mm port into a Y splitter that splits into RCA plugs. Then those RCA's from the splitter would plug into the Blitzsafe.

the blitzsafe does nothing but turn your cd changer port into an AUX input. all you would then use your head unit deck for is to control volume. all other options you use your ipod manually just like you would if you were listening to headphones. its great. audio quality is not lost at all.

as far as alpine, kenwood , pioneer interfaces: you dont lose any audio quality. though all you can do is switch tracks. you can only access playlists, and doing that is difficult due to the fact your head unit is usually only 8 characters. it takes about 3 seconds between switchign playlists, and searching for. it took me about 20-25 seconds to get from a song back to the playlist menu and pick a new one. i also called crutchfield and viewed reviews onliine....all gave horrible reviews. crutchfield told me not to order it. i thought that was enough proof it sucks...cause crutch obviously wnats my 100 dollar business. ha, funny.

anyway, if you want my blitzsafe, its here new in package. let me know.

coryswihart@hotmail.com

its definately the best and ONLY way to turn your factory deck into an ipod user (without losing any audio quality)
