Guest Mike
So, I installed a new in-dash gps/bluetooth/ipod head unit in my '06 s60 and now have a message in my instrument cluster that states "SRS Service Required - Urgent." The rep at my Volvo service station informed me that the factory stereo is in fact one of 12 computer modules part of the computer system as a whole, and since this one is missing, the modules can no longer talk to each other. His resolution is $100 in labor to install some $75 software upgrade to the system... Does anyone have a cheat around this? Can I get this reprogrammed using any MORE COST EFFICIENT tricks? It would be nice to get the warning light and "1 new message" display resolved for good, and feel comfortable knowing my airbag will deploy if necessary. Thanks for the help. Guest DrDootz
You need to have an OBDII reader to reset the code but it must support Volvo's. I had the same issue on my S80 after a battery change. I got a BSR PPC for Volvo online for around $200. The dealer wanted $150 to reset the code. I now have the unit and it has saved me 3X the cost. It reads ALL the Volvo codes and modules and clears them also. If your going to have the car awhile it is a good investment. JimLev1
I pulled the radio out of my '01 V70 (long story) and after putting it back in (battery not disconnected) I also go the SRS Service Required - Urgent. This was the second time it's happened, the first was when I pulled the center console apart to add some wiring. The dealer I bought the car from cleared it for free, however the second time he wanted $105. I took it to an indie that had the Volvo computer, he reset it for $75. He told me that there is a well known problem in the instrument cluster that causes this problem, they have seen it many times. Volvo knows about it, the fix is to replace the complete cluster, it can't be reprogrammed one the initial download is done.
CJones16
Yes anytime you do anything electrical or that has a module.. disconnect the battery When you put in an Aftermarket radio, you have to get Software to tell the module there is no radio there (because the aftermarket HU does not have a module to communicate with the car) The software is called "HU Remove"... something like that My dealer cleared the SRS code for free the first time And I will be picking up the BSR code scantool (Actually version 2 is coming out soon)
Guest Mike
Soooo, Seems the "trick" I'm looking for is to find a friendly Volvo tech to "lend a helping hand" and run this software update pro-bono.. right? Without installing this software, how can the OBDII tool fully resolve the computer ommunication issue? Is my airbag even functional with this warning present? Chilled man
SRS light is due to disconnecting the CCM with out the batterie turned disconnected . Go to local dealer have them reset the light Also from on 05+ cars of radio removal same procedure but extra money for software /thread ;)
JimLev1
Anybody got info (link) to a place that sells the BSR code scantool? I found a few, but they all said discontinued.

Yep, even the manufacturer's order page is showing out of stock. I heard someone say they're coming out with version 2.0 of the tool. Guess until then you're SOL. http://www.ppc-diagnostic.com/order/ There's a guy on eBay selling a couple of them for $289 + shipping with a no return policy. I bought mine last year for $200. Guess it's a supply and demand thang.
