Tightmopedman9
I just installed a newish alpine, CDA-9851, after my first alpine got stolen The thing that pisses me off about this HU is that it doesn't turn off when the car turns off, I double checked to make sure I didn't fuck up the yellow/red wire (constant 12v and ignition switched 12v). Does anyone know what my problem could be?
Tightmopedman9
Could I just gut the constant 12v power? Or does it need two power sources? Also, anyone have a wiring diagram for the radio wires?
Tightmopedman9
So I checked this wiring diagram out: http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/radiocon.php and with a multimeter found out that 13A (acc+) turns on with the ignition, hooked it up as the switched lead and it worked! until i turned on my lights I guess I'm gonna try 10A (Rheostat +) now and see how that works out. BEJinFBK
When you say you checked the power leads, are you sure that the power is really going off, like, with a meter? And yes. You DO need constant power. BTW - Great Top Gear Video... Best Sig Ever!
Tightmopedman9
The power is going off, I can tell because the deck is being turned off when the lights are turned on. I checked both +12v leads and they are always on regardless of the ignition position. I just need to find which lead is switched with the ignition. I really wish that the people who stole my deck didn't steal my fucking wiring alpine/volvo wiring harness too, because it used to work... I realize now that I need a memory lead and a switched lead, since the switched lead is just to turn on the unit it won't draw much operating power from the switched lead. Chilled man
why dont you buy the volvo to ... harness off ebay for $5 ?
Tightmopedman9
why dont you buy the volvo to ... harness off ebay for $5 ? I did, it doesn't work, last one I bought on ebay worked, this one doesn't. It looks like I just blew the fuse to acc+, there is no power going to it even with the lights off but none of the fuses are blown. WTF?
Tightmopedman9
Fuck this shit! Now the fucking deck won't even turn on, theres power going to the plug, continuity between the harnesses is fine and the fuse on the back of the deck is fine. DonutsDemise
there has to be a problem with one of three things, the ground, the acc power, or the constant 12v. i hacked my old volvo and hooked it up the first time and it worked. i will never do that again though because doing wiring back there is a PITA and i sold my car after having to fix my mess. check the contacts on your harness. my blinker harness has a problem with the wire getting pushed back so my blinker won't work. i have seen this on a lot of different applications. make sure the wires are all the way in on the harness and stay that way when you plug it in. also make sure you haven't short circuited anything. once my amps wouldn't turn off because i was a little sloppy on the remote wire. it was next to the 12volt constant in my trunk on my amp and they were in contact. the power constantly in my remote signal wire made my stereo stay on. all it took was a couple threads of copper wire to screw with my head for a little while. Ask and you shall receive.... Not trying to be offensive here, but I'm gonna give you a pretty detailed walk through just in case you made a simple mistake (I did when I put my Pioneer in ) Connect the red wire from your alpine to the red w/black wire on the OEM harness (pin 4, connector A) the yellow wire from your alpine to the yellow w/ violet wire on the OEM harness (pin 13, connector A) and connect the black ground from the alpine to the black ground (pin 6, connector A) and you should be all set. As far as the dimmer goes, connect the orange wire from the Alpine to the pink wire on the OEM harness (pin 10, connector A) Good luck! And I agree with BEJ, your sig is awesome

The reason my deck stopped working is because the battery was dying and didn't have enough voltage to power it, a jump fixed that right quick. I've installed 7 stereos including wiring subs and new speakers, I've definitely learned that taking your time and securing all wire connections is crucial and save a lot of headaches. And I agree with BEJ, your sig is awesome I bought an ebay wire plug and I think the position of some of the wires in the plug to the OEM side may have been messed up, originally the switched was going to position 4 and the constant power was going to 12, which by looking at the wiring diagram it seems that they are one and the same. I'll try hooking it up the way you suggested and I'll get back to ya. Thanks!

Now the fucking deck won't even turn on, theres power going to the plug, continuity between the harnesses is fine and the fuse on the back of the deck is fine. Disconnect Everything and nail down power. Look for ign voltage on the carside yellow/violet wire, ( Pin 13 on the A connector / Fuse# 32). Battery should show on TWO Red/Black wires, ( Pins 4 & 12 on the A connector / Fuse# 7). Ground will be TWO black wires, ( Pins 6 & 14 on the A connector). BEJinFBK
Also: If this is a used deck, you may want to check it out on the bench. Get the HU completely away from the car with a known good 12 volt supply and a pair of speakers. Hook it up and check it out. That'll help you narrow down whether it's the deck or the car that's giving you grief. Good Luck!
Tightmopedman9
Hey got it figured out I wired the switched 12v to pin 4 and the constant power to pin 13. Thanks for all the help guys! I wish that they had just put the wires in the right spot to begin with
Jippi 855 GLT
sounds like you got the acc and constnt 12v switched. depending on teh company the harness is made by they might have it switched.
