GTGLT
1999 V70 LPT with 140k, oil changed every 4-5k with conv. 10/30 and OEM filter. Changed timing belt 06/07 at 110k with no problems, car has ran great ever since and no TB related codes. Car has been running great (and still is) with no codes for over a year and today it throws a P0014. From what I read this is common for 2000+ cars with VVT but can't find much info for 1999- cars. Right now my initial guess is either camshaft position sensor or sludge issue (never done PCV job). Maybe just a short? BTW, I SeaFoam every oil change and am due for a change very soon. Thanks! FCP Euro
Your 1999 and the 2000 model year were exactly the same. When you saw the code, did it tell you what it meant?

Thanks for the response. Actually Volvo introduced the CVVT in late 1999, so there are some 1999s out there without CVVT including mine. The P0014 code is for a camshaft position error or timing off. I have put quite a bit of research into this and it looks like it is very common either after a timing belt change and your a tooth off, or on cars with CVVT that have either a camshaft position sensor fail or the CVVT solenoid fail b/c of sludge and insufficient oil pressure. My apologies, my memory is not as good as I thought. Took my Timing cover off today and turns out I do have CVVT. Guess that means it could also be the CVVT solenoid? db130
on CVVT cars, P0014 could be triggered for something as trivial as low oil pressuure(due to not enough oil in the crankcase) and/or oil quality. a sludged up CVVT solenoid could also trigger that. in some cases the solenoid could be cleaned but sometimes require a replacement. worst case scenario would be the CVVT hub aka exhaust cam gear. if it's been 35k since the timing belt change, i think it's pretty safe to say that your timing belt has been installed correctly. pick up a new CVVT solenoid gasket(part number 30731212), remove and clean the CVVT solenoid and see if it helps. GTGLT
Thanks for the info! I figure it is something trivial so I cleared the code and will wait for it to come back (so far 50mi and nothing). If it shows up I will try cleaning the solenoid as you suggested. Thanks.
