Eee Radio Code W/ Aftermarket/"Non-Volvo" Alpine 6 Cd Changer

Hello,

I recently had the original receiver put back into my 1992 960 wagon. Prior, we had an aftermarket/"non-Volvo" Alpine receiver (and matching Alpine 6-disc CD changer installed in the cargo area of the wagon) and the display on the receiver burnt out, so I thought I'd make the dash look "stock" again by putting in the original SC-815 receiver. The receiver has a "CD" button for the disc changer, but when I press the "CD" button the screen reads "EEE" and the radio keeps playing. The radio plays beautifully and is hooked up to the original amp, etc. I've read on some of other postings where "EEE" usually is an error code where one must punch in the radio code on the receiver..that is not the case here. Please let me know if anyone has come across this in their findings or personal dealings. Thank you much!

The SC-813,815/816 need a special version of the CD Changer adapter to work properly. The reasoning behind this is that these radios were made by Mitsubushi and they don't need a extra signal or coding from the CD Changer to work. Because of this, you need a special adapter that will emulate this extra signal/code so that the radio can see the CD Changer.

The only unit I know that can make the SC813, 815/816 work with the Alpine aftermarket CD Changers it the Blitsafe VOL-ALP. Simple cable adapters WILL NOT WORK.

I believe that the SC-815/816 were actually Alpine products produced for Volvo.

The contractual agreement required that the OEM units purposely NOT be

compatible with retail market Alpine changers. It's all about the money...

( They made the same deal with several other car makers, also. )

The physical connectors and audio path are the same, but they flipped

some bits for the control data interface, so your radio can't "see" it.

Short story? You WILL need a protocol adapter like the Blitzsafe to make it work.

If you can still find them, Crutchfield had a direct plug-in changer for a while.

I can't remember the brand, but they were selling for around $250.00.

nope, it's much easier than that.

Alpine switched 2 of the wires in the cable from normal setup to the volvo config. All you need to do to use a non-volvo alpine of the correct style is to swap those 2 pins in the wire. Let me see if i can dig it out...

wifi horrid this morning, i'll look in a bit for the other, but it's out there.

^^^ I don't think that is true. I have a blitzsafe adapter that I originally had purchased and used on my SC-811 when I had the 850. I swapped it over to my SC-816 when I bought the S70 and now on my SC-901 that I swapped into the car. If the swapped wire theory was correct, then wouldn't my blitzsafe adapter not work on my SC-816/901 or not work on the SC-811? The fact that it is compatible through out the all the SC radios, means that the pin out is correct and has not changed over the models.

I don't think so...

Think about it. If it were THAT easy, why isn't there a simple adapter out there?

Do you really think that USA-Spec and Blitzsafe would spend all that money

producing a protocol adapter if theay could do it on the cheap?

Follow the money! ;)
