andyb5
Does anyone know where to get a SPL meter thats relatively affordable (not from Radioshack--haven't heard any good reviews of theirs) ? I'm looking to mount it near my amp for a continuous SPL reading while my system is on...I've seen it done on a few professional installs (yes, one was Pimp My Ride ) and was wondering where to find one. Searching online only turns up handheld meters for like $350+ Any feedback and suggestions are welcome too. Thanks guys

MyCarIsRed
Radio shack used to sell some that worked. Nothing you'd take to a competition, but good enough for noise complaints ;)

MyCarIsRed
Oh not from Sh*t shack LOL yea helps to read the full post. My bad. DOh! Well, if they want to get one that works well and is cheap, go there. Mine is 12 years old and works just fine. Radio shack has a very bad name, mostly a holdover from the late 80s when none of you knew what an SPL was, but they sell perfectly good parts and equipment. They built themselves on test gear and were the first place you could buy a tape recorder. They are also one of the ONLY places you can buy component parts in person. Oh and if you don't like it, you can WALK BACK INSIDE THE STORE AND RETURN IT. People are way too quick to dismiss things that are no longer "cool"... Seriously tho, there are many good ways to find a SPL meter. (The worst possible way may be to ask here ) for example, the FIRST result via The Google: http://www.digital-recordings.com/audiocd/radio.html Which nicely demonstrates that the radio shack unit is just fine, with data to support the claim. Heh i need coffee...

Heh i need coffee... Nah its all good, I didn't actually research the Radioshack one, a couple friends (admittedly not the smartest guys ever ) didn't like it, so I just ruled it out right away...I'll give it a try. And yes, I do shop at Radio Shack for most of my electronic needs (eff you best buy )
