Hu-803 Radio And Pa-300 Amp

Hi..new to the forum. I just picked up a 2004 V70 R and an whipping it into shape. The radio is not sounding great. I thought the rear speakers were blown...took off a door panel and hooked up an infinity speaker. Still the sound, particularly in the rear was weak and distorted. The front sounds ok, but not hi fidelity. The fader button is working but sends little sound to the rear. And the sound that is there is tinny and very distorted. This radio has a separate PA-300 amp. I've checked the fuses and none are blown. Where is the PA-300 amp located on this car? How do I access it? How does one remove the radio to have it tested?

I really want to avoid getting ripped off at the dealer. So I'd like to troubleshoot this myself.

Crutchfield will work with me on a new unit....but list nothing for the 2004. So if I start going down that road, I likely will have a non-matching dash color, and I'll be into an auxiliary amp and have to get an interface to get the sterring wheel controls to work. So I'd like to stay with this 4 cd relatively powerfull HU-803 setup.

So...three questions

1. trouble shoot ideas?

2. where is the pa-300 amp located?

3. How does on remove the HU-803 headunit?

Thanks.
