Front Speaker Pods

Recommended Posts

I'm considering placing some pods up front in my car. If people could post some example pictures of theirs I would appreciate it. I just want to make sure that I'm willing to get myself into this.

Also, what generally are my options. Where can I get pods from? I know bing puts some together. Do the speakers have to be built into them or no? Is it the sort of thing I could remove before selling the car?

Thanks for the help guys.

I assume you are talking about kickpods.

These go in the footwell and a few guys have done them. Most notably, Mr. Bing.

There are lots of online resources for kickpod information and construction techniques if you wanna do your own.

I think bing will make you some for the right money ;). And you would probably take the pods out if a) you planned on getting another vulva B) you planned on selling off the pods to another vulva owner.

Now door pods are another animal. You will lose your door pocket (hopefully you have an 850). I have, am doing, two different types. A psuedo sealed up version that i hate, and an infinite baffle version that im not finished with (shutup Kevin!).

Here are pics of both.

Sealed up version.... the speaker sits in a little pod that is sealed from the back..

IB version the speaker acutally attaches to the door panel...

So is there anywhere to purchase pods though, either a kickpod or something to go in the pocket of my car? I don't want to make anything because I don't have a lot of experience with materials. Also, bing, with your pods, and with most pods, can the speakers be changed easily or is it all built around the speaker?

hey tobkyo, yeah, i do sell kick pods to volvo 850 owners, loaded with speaker...as a package, but PM personally if you are intersted, assuming you hvea a 850 of course...

out of a normal retail store, they will charge you anywhere from 3-500(and even much more expsniv depends on cosmetics and finish) bucks to build a set of good quality kicks and then have to charge the cost for sepakres ontop of it, i run a much better deal for VS members, and i gurantee it will cure your midbass issue...

I will post pics of mine sometime sooner than later ;)

I bought them from bing, and the speakers they were loaded with are crystal mobilesound CSX 615s. They are 6.5 inches in diameter. The midbass response is infinitely better than the stock sound system, and just having the speakers in an enclosure that doesn't rattle makes a huge difference. The stereo image is noticably better.

They are fairly simple to install, but, I had help from someone who doesn't know car audio, but has a great mind for DIY. Basically you just drill some holes in the chassis and screw the kicks in with self tapping screws. It sound hard, but it really is fairly easy. You can easily remove them as well, just unscrew them, and I am fairly sure no one will ever notice that there are 2 or three extra holes in the chassis. The midbass is much tighter and punchier (though i did have to cut the freq at 200hz due to some distortion, it seemed like there was actually a peak at 200hz, but it sounds good and punchy now), especially combined with a sub. If you are really good, you could probably get the whole installation done in an afternoon, of course, if you are like bing, it would take you about an hour :)

850_Mike,

You need to clarify.  ARe you asking about Bings Kickpods?  Those go down by your feet.  Take a look at bing's site.... http://simplicity.elitecaraudio.org/photo.html

The top cars all have kickpods.

My door pods are different.  They are part of the door.  I am making them myself.

The Porsche boxter at the bottom of the page has door pods.

I'm interested in your door pods....would like to keep my existing legroom.

r they diffiucult to make yourself? looks like the pockets come off easily.

thnx!
