2000 V70R Timing Belt Replacement

Just the same as any other t-belt job, just follow the bay 13 instructions. SInce your car has VVT, I always like to make a paint mark on the back of the VVT pulley and a corresponding mark on the head, that way if the hub flops around I know exactly where it was before.

Good luck

I always count the notches between the timing belts to make sure I have the right tension. I'll change out the tensioner while doing the job. The idler pully is generally done every other time, but doesn't cost that much. Of course replace if it feels loose rough or you can see a grease leak. Unless you know the miles on the serp belt you might also consider this too. You can either decide to remove the main crank pully, or learn the technique to get the belt off and on while the crank pully stays on (cut the belt for simplicity removal). I've never mastered getting the belt on with the pully in place, so I remove the pully, but I also have air tools which make this way a snap. Once the bolts are off, I used a cheap steering wheel puller to get it off but others have been successful with a few hammer taps. Tightening it can be a problem because it is hard to hold. There is a specialty Volvo tool for this, or make your own if you are handy at these things. There is also the "rope trick" to do the tightening. Do a search if more interested on this. I just use some lock tite and what ever the air wrench gives me when I tighten. Good luck, follow I hatespeedbumps reccomendations to follow the instructions and you'll find this is not really that hard. Keep us posted, we'll help if you need it.

IPD Cam Locker ;)

+1 to Justin's suggestion. The suggestion to mark reference points on the cams to the block is also useful. You WILL want to remove the crank pulley, but I find that they come off fairly easily once you get the four bolts and the large nut off (air power is essential here). Getting the mechanical tensioner properly centered requires a little patience, too.

You are going to replace the water pump -- yes?

I see this post coming from the OP.

"I just finished doing the timing belt. It was easier than expected. What is a P0014 code?"

LOL

I know this code very well! Make sure you have everything back in the proper location. You will get the above mentioned code if you do not. Many many experienced mechanics and DIYers have gotten this code.

Its not as hard as it seems, Its easy actually. Oh, be careful with the coolant bottle when you remove it. the sensor at the bottom can break real easy. i pulled it out and needed a new one, $30 from the dealer.

thanks guys, especially the suggestions on the P0014 code and the crank pulley. I should have mentioned that this is the 200K t belt swap and just about everything (serp, tensioner, pulley, crank and cam seals, etc.) is being replaced thanks to tax season! I thank my children.

Anyone wanna lend me a IPD cam locker?

Thanks again guys. LooK forward to keeping the car clean for more than 15mins-
