Service Light On!

If this is on the 940, and if it's the same as my '96 960, there is a small black plug near the trip reset in the main instrument cluster, you remove that plug, and take a blunt tooth pick or equivalent, and with the ignition turned to on, press the button under the plug with the tooth pick until the light resets.

Yeah I know that it works for the 940...I do that when is needed

but for the 850R it doesn't have one <_<

If you ever need to remove the instrument cluster for removing light bulbs etc. I wrote a DIY here (a few bulbs can be approached from BELOW w/o the need to remove the dash):

Step 1:

Remove SRL bulb.

Step 2: Done

I usually take the CEL bulb out while I'm in there. No emissions testing FTW.

I used to stomp on my service light lamp after I removed it (before I got VOL-FCR) and then I threw it down the street just to make sure that it can never come back. The CEL I leave intact just so that I know when a vacuum line has fallen off.

Limp mode will kill your fuel mileage.

Limp Mode is not really helpful! <_<

If you have a 1996-1998 850, S/V/C 70, then an expensive reset tool is needed to reset the service light.

Here's an example. http://cgi.ebay.com/VOLVO-SERVICE-AND-AIRBAG-INDICATOR-RESET-TOOL_W0QQitemZ380192974472QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment?hash=item5885446688

You can almost always find them at about 50-60 bucks.

( THIS one is going for about twice the usual eBay price. )
