FAST850R
Hello, Finally I am going to order spark plugs, wires, cap&rotor, and air filter for my 850r. Before I order the parts from fcp, I have some questions and hope to get some advice. FCP offers "tune up kits" which is $170. It says the spark plugs are OEM volvo parts, but do I really need to get those? They seem expensive (5 for $45). I can get copper or platinum ones that are much cheaper. Any advice on this? They also have 2 different kind of wire sets. One is just aftermarket one and another one is Bougicord. Any advice here? FCP also offers K&N washable air filter....has anyone used this? Thank you. Oreo931
BOUGICORD for wires is a must. For plugs, go with OEM or something copper. Champion copper, NGK copper, etc. Don't use platinum.

Bah
Heh idk..i have the bougicord ones..which had 100k + miles on them if not more, and had very little movement to them (they showed their age in the material..after 100k miles and 6-7 Years minimum...) BUT they still functioned 100%. I put some 7mm wires on which worked just as well, and were newer. I also have the IPD wires on the R. All of these were good quality, but the only 2 names i know of are IPD's and Bougicord. Either one will provide you worry free operation...if your going with the kit though do the OEM Bougicord. As for the K&N, i used the drop in on 2 cars, never a MAF issue. Again, 30-40k miles on one of them, and it's getting to the point where it needs to be oiled and cleaned. Generally, people say the K&N will cause early MAF failure...the oil they use and what not. I haven't had an issue, but it makes logical sense that it CAN happen. So keep that in mind. MAF is expensive. It normally happens to people who clean the filter, and re-oil it, and use too much oil. Even so, their is MAF cleaner which can be used and has a pretty good chance of fixing it if for some reason you throw an error. You buy the K&N and just drop it in and go. Really simple..when i got the 96R it had leaves bunged into it. Hit it against your leg, shake it all out, and your good to go Of course now i use IPDs kit, and if your planning to go short ram or CAI in the future, save your money for that since it will include the conical filter. Good luck!
