Turbosleeper
So I just bought myself a 96 850 turbo and am currently having overheating troubles. It started with my reservoir being filled with excess pressure and overflowing through the cap so I replaced the reservoir, I also flushed out my heater core and then flushed out the entire cooling system and the car still overheats. I checked the waterpump for leaks and play in the bearings and nothing. I am hoping its not my waterpump but ive ordered one from fcpgroton just incase. Any other possibilities to it overheating? Thanks in advance
project_850
Flush your rad and make sure it's not clogged. Doesn't happen often but it's a possibility. Also, you might wanna have a gander over your fan relay. If the car sits in traffic and your fan doesn't work it could lead to overheating. Bah
I assume you got the green lid? While it wouldn't lead to overheating, the whole splurting out thing can be caused from the grey cap. Its potentially the thermostat, fan, blockage, failed radiator, or as stated above, waterpump, headgasket.. I would do some things first. A. Make sure your not leaking out massively B. Check the T-stat. C. Check the fan. Shoot a direct 12Volts to it, and take a gander. They do apparently have a tendency to sieze up. D. Check all the hoses, flush the coolant if you haven't already. E. Check for oil in the resovoir...that would indicate a yes or no to headgasket. If at this point you've got nothing, bring out the pressure tester, if that seems good, check the fan relays. If you wanna check the fan relay or atleast the fan really really quick, unplug the ECT and turn the car to POSII. If fan goes on, you should be aight fan side. Water pump impellers could have exploded...can sorta check if by turning the fan on and having high heat on in the car, if it blows warm. Obviously if its not flowing, the heater core won't get *hot* like it should. Just a few quick things i cna think of

Turbosleeper
I have reaves the Tstat already. There is no oil or anything in my coolant. I flushed the rad and heater core and them seem fine. I'm guessing it's the waterpump. I pray I didn't let the headgasket go.Replaced tstat** sorry using a phone to reply
Turbosleeper
Another thing I am wondering is, seeing my coolant disappears and i cant find the leak except coolant cap then if it was the headgasket would i not be able to see large amounts of white smoke? How much is a headgasket? Hopefully the waterpump is all that is failing.

Commander Riker
I'm going to vote for broken impeller on the water pump. 98 was doing the same thing... even cracked the cap on the reservoir with pressure, as well as the side of the radiator. Might as well replace the timing belt while you do the pump. Just my .
project_850
A failed headgasket is unmistakable. Hard starts, huge plumes of white smoke, overpowering smell of coolant, oil in your reservoir. As long as you didn't let it boil over, you still have a prayer that you didn't destroy your head gasket. That and I know you just installed an MBC, so be very careful because detonation is another culprit that can lead to head gasket failure. Definitely replace your timing belt and water pump and keep us posted.
Turbosleeper
Ok so I took out the waterpump and it seems fine, the impellers are intact, there is no play whatsoever, it spins just fine..I cant see a reason why I should even carry forward and replace the waterpump. I dont know what else it could be. I mean the car runs fine, it doesnt have anyloss of power whatsoever or any white smoke so i dont think it could be the headgasket. Whats a forsure way i can test the headgasket?
Gilhuly
Have a mechanic use a sniffer on the coolant. If its a HG there are certain gasses present from the crankcase.
