Where Is A Speedometer Sensor?

FAST850R

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I need to replace the engine speedometer sensor. I got this transmission warning and check engine light, and a mechanic pulled a code.

He said that I need to replace the sensor. I believe the code was P0715...something like that...

If anyone knows where it is and how to replace it, please let me know.

Thank you.

I know 94 has the sensor at the back side of the tranny (the back being the side facing the sidewall), while later 850s have them on the top towards the 'back'. Not exactly sure what year this tranny difference took effect.

Thank you so much for the picture.

I will order the part and replace it.

Hum...I got the part, but it doesn't look like a part in the picture above.

It looks like THIS

Is this the right part? I haven't had chance to check the sensor in my car, and before I use the part, I want to make sure whether this is the right part.

I found THIS, and the picture looks different from what I ordered.

The part pictured is the RPM sensor, not the vehicle speed sensor. On '95 and earlier cars the Vehicle Speed Sensor is mounted more or less midway between the axles on the rear of the transaxle. On '96 and newer cars it is a signal from your ABS module that gets its signals from the wheel sensors.

What year is your car and is your ABS light on?

Thank you for the reply.

My car is 1996 and no abs light is on. I got transmission warning arrow flashing and check engine light is on.

I took my car to a mechanic and he pulled a code. He said the speedometer sensor needs to be replaced. So I ordered the sensor from fcp, and that was what I got.

The site shows that the part is the speedometer sensor.

Can anyone show where is the speedometer sensor for 96??

Have you replaced your abs module yet? When my module went bad, i got codes for a speed sensor also. I replaced the module and was code free. Ty disconnecting the wiring harness on the abs module, blowing on it to get any debris out and reconnect it, usually helped for me until i bought a rebuilt module from bbareman.com. Best of luck to ya.

A PO replaced ABS module so it is fine, but I will do as you said.

The transmission warning light disappeared by itself, 2 days ago. Since nobody knows where is the speedometer sensor, I took my car to a mechanic, and he said that it's down below the intake arm. I asked him to change it for me, but he said he doesn't put a part that customers bring. So I have to put it myself, but the problem is, I still don't know where it is.

I took off the intake arm and checked the area that the mechanic said, but there was no part looks like the one that I got from FCP.

Does anyone have a shop or dealer manual for 1996 850r?

Ok, this is what I think.

Since my car is 1996, maybe it's early model and it was built in 95....so the sensor actually located where 1995 transmission is...

If that is the case, the sensor is located back of the tranny, and it seems like I have to go under to check it....

Is my theory possible?

I might check it tomorrow if I have time...

Ok, now I found out what was wrong with the part that I ordered and why I was confused.

The part that I got from FCP is for Volvo 850 from 1993~1995, which mounted on back of the transmission close to firewall.

FCP site shows that the speedometer sensor is for volvo from 1994~1997 so I thought it was the right part, but I was wrong.

If you check the site, it shows specific vin number for the part.

Anyway, I am going to return the part tomorrow.

Like other members mentioned above, after I disconnected and reconnected ABS sensor, I got tracs off & ABS sensor light.

I disconnected battery about 10~20 sec but check engine light, abs, and tracs light is still on.

I said the abs module was replaced by PO, but I was wrong. I checked maintenance paper that I got from PO, but I couldn't find anything about ABS.

Either he lied to me or he was misunderstanding.

Anyway, since I got those light, should I just take the abs module out and send it to a guy who rebuilds it?

or should I pull obd II code first?

Well since I got code for speedometer sensor, and now I got abs and tracs light, it's kind of obvious that abs module is going south?

Can I keep driving like this for a while?

Any advice on this?

Thank you.

I decided to fix the module myself. It looks pretty easy to do.

Now, I need to order the e-5 torx socket, and one of a member said the part number is 26770. Can I order e-5 torx socket that has a different part number?

I found THIS and I think it's the same one.

Anyone can confirm this before I order it?

Thanks.
