Falcone
If the stories are true...a simple fluid flush should entail a fun manual swap weekend =p I can take a pic of the sludge in my tranny case for you. The car has somewhere over 360,xxxkms and is still on the origional fluid. I'm the thirteenth owner of this car, and have sh!t kicked it since it has been in my possesion for two years. My tranny just does not want to die. To put it into perspective, the one in the 99 gti I had (only had 36,000km on the car), was dead within two thousand kms of this kind of abuse. I kid you not, this is the worst looking fluid/gel with the deadliest smell ever, but i'm impressed with these auto's quality. But I want to row, and that won't happen until something breaks into pieces.
EricF
Oh, also the shifter box has been done by The Poi on his 960 turbo... With the same management more or less. It could be done pretty easily in an 850 too, he uses paddle shifters I believe in his car. There's some write ups on how he did it somewhere... Go search here and on tbricks
Falcone
Yeah, the Poi uses paddles. I tried on my car using his write up, but I fried the sh!t out of everything because I wire and solder like an amputated squirrel here's his thread http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=47229&highlight=poi+paddle+shifted+
Ihatespeedbumps
Lots of fail in this thread. If you have an auto put the damn thing in drive and quit posing like you have an auto civic hatch with a fart cannon.
Jaxx
THE best way to have fun with the AT on these cars, is to faux shift. I sit there with my hand on the knob, foot on the fake clutch, and floor it, let off and let it shift, floor it again. You'll learn the shift points if you try too. The speedometer goes out sometimes, so i luckily knew my RPMs. I never use A/C and i generally drive with only me in the car, so i had a really good idea. don't do this. Burn-E
Place the car in 'N', Hold rev's against the limiter and then shift into 'R' for 'race'.:lol::lol::lol: Yes, and please do it when stopped at a light with a line of traffic behind you. Make sure you catch the whole thing on video so the rest of us can enjoy it with you.
--Aaron--
Best thread evarr! I did not read it because I had no desire to. Anyhow, on topic: I like to put mine in Neutral, rev that monkey til it starts screamin and pop it into Drive. You should see all the smoke! It goes ZOMGGGGGGGRAWWWRRRRRRRRRRSPINSPINSPINBABABABABABANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
dongle
Once I flipped my buddy's shifter in Neutral as we were slowly rolling away from a light and it just revved up and he was all "WTF?!" and pushed it up into Reverse. I can not even begin to describe the horrible, horrible noises that erupted from his transmission immediately afterward. I loled. Hard. He did not. L8 APEKS
I like to keep it in 3rd to avoid unnecessary shifting between 3rd and 4th around town.. first is nice for parking lots This is the extent of my shifting, and even then, I seldom do those things. I pretty much only leave it in LOW if I'm driving through a parking garage trying to see how many cheap alarms I can set off. 98% of the time, I leave it in D and go. Mesoam
we don't have "smart" transmissions like a mercedes, shift the car to whatever gear indicator position keeps you in the RPM range you want
pcguru000
So ive read this before http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=47229&highlight=poi+paddle+shifted+960 The whole paddle shifters thing is genius- I wish i understood half of what hes talking about... its strange.. I understand the programming but not the application of half of it.. How exactly do these transmissions work? It is just a simple voltage signal being thrown at the tranny (Where are those wires?) to tell it to shift into a gear... if we could determine what voltage is equal to what gear then couldnt we just splice into those wires and send the voltage down them that we want to shift to the corresponding gear? It seems like such a simple concept... is there any blue print/ information on how exactly these trannys work that i could read?
