rbodor3
Club has a connection with a property manager. Large parking lot, not great shape. But it was mostly empty (light posts, some bulldozers), closed to the public, and legally ours to use (and large). Couple nissan 240s, M3, turbo'd 3series with serious engine work, 318i and 325 stock, new camaro ss, rx7. Only other FWD was a turbo mod'd jetta. I was the only Look at me, I think I am witty there. Driver's made a huge difference. Track times ranged from 1:02 to 37 on the same stock 318i. The majority of times around 40. best time IIRC was the M3 at 33.7, close second was the serious turbo'd 3 series at like 34 IIRC. S60 best time was 37.37, but I clearly need one of those driver mod :monkey:

rbodor3
good stuff... your s60 was better then the average? i bet you were happy about that I was happy considering I was up against a bunch of RWD power cars, but I will say the suspension work on my car I felt was way ahead of the other guys. A couple of them were riding on stock suspension, most of them didn't have anything past maybe springs & strut bar. Plus the age of their cars lead to inefficient suspension geometry (I would think) and bad bushings in all sorts of places (and flex too!). I really think that's where they lost time and I gained it. Plus I feel fairly confident that I could out brake any of them with the brembo kit. The most disappointing loss - however - was our best driver went out in a stock, old e28 and threw down a 37.7 by his last run (only .03 seconds slower than me.... :monkey:

It shouldn't be disappointing. He is a better driver. Bet he could have taken a couple seconds off your car too. :-/ Not to mention, it was your FIRST auto-x. Zappo
If you ever go to an autocross school, the instructors will drive your car at some point, or typically do. Usually end up killing your time by 5-6 seconds having never driven your car before. You will be faster on your next run though. You might think you are driving at the limit of the car and they show you the car can go much faster.
rbodor3
yeah, I really felt that I pushed the car hard but didn't get the speed out of it that I should have. I spent all my time hard on the gas, or hard on the brake, and scurrying with the wheel. It's easy to understand smoothness is the key, but doing it is so different <_<
