Bah
My 2 850's, when i took the stock tweeter out, the cone disintegrated in my hand LOL... I'd like to go back to a component system one day, but for now 3.5inch'ers do great, but a separate amp is definitely needed. I'm curious how the frequency cut is affected...i should know this Awesome, cheap, and probably extremely effective speaker mod! +1 to ya! I'm still amazed people's stock tweeters aren't dust =p Then again, i use a sun shield, PO's must not have.
Dave 54
Wow, def. will have time to get some things done and then some before I tackle this. Just got am email from Mouser stating a June 23 shippment date for my order .
lookforjoe
Good info here, thanks for the tip! I can use this on the wagon "d" pillar tweeters :)
Keep Calm Chive On
so in simple terms i go get that what ever thing a ma jig, cut out the old one in picture, save as much lead as i can, solder in the new one, put back... rock out? im not electrical smart so when in doubt ill just go print this an drop it off up the road and have electric wiz kid do it. hes finally starting the SAS delete FYI so maybe it can be done! lookforjoe
I just replaced the capacitor in my center channel speaker. I haven't installed it back in the car yet, but running it on my desk with a small amplifier, it just sounds beautiful, smooth! My next goal is to do all the rear speakers! What rating was the capacitor? Do you remember? I'd rather not pull mine to check if I don't have to....
crazykn
The center channel speaker was also a 3.3uF capacitor, just like the tweeters (non-dynaudio).
washdup
Gonna try this. Just ordered from DigiKey.
washdup
I was going to the D pillar tweeters and didn't check the ratings and just bought the ones for the dash. V70's D-pillars are 50V 4.7 uF. Have to re-order. If anyone needs a brand new unopened set for the dash tweeters, PM me.
crazykn
I was going to the D pillar tweeters and didn't check the ratings and just bought the ones for the dash. V70's D-pillars are 50V 4.7 uF. Have to re-order. If anyone needs a brand new unopened set for the dash tweeters, PM me. The funny thing is that the tweeters in the D Pillar are the same as the ones in the Dash. The high capacitor would allow a lower frequency to pass through to it. Even if you put the 3.3uF it would still sound pretty good (and would be better protected from bass transients). If you insist on getting the exact same value for that D Pillar you can, but you can also upgrade the rear door speaker's tweeter with the 3.3uF. washdup
So the crossover would be changed, allowing somewhat lower frequencies through?
andyb5
So the crossover would be changed, allowing somewhat lower frequencies through? It would block lower frequencies from coming though. Using the 4.7uF capacitor would allow lower frequencies than the 3.3uF, but it would keep the same frequency range as the stock capacitor does. Using the 4.7uF capacitor would allow lower frequencies than the 3.3uF, but it would keep the same frequency range as the stock capacitor does. Got it. The higher the uF, the more restrictive. Mouser doesn't expect to ship the 4.7 until 11/11/10. <_<
crazykn
You mean lower the uF the more restrictive. The lower the uF the more bass frequency it will block (or technically attenuate). As I said though, if these tweeters are the same as the dash, they could use the same frequency cross-over. You don't want to be sending bass frequencies to these tweeters anyways, because they can't handle it. You don't have to necessarily use the exact ones I had used for the dash. A bigger one is probably fine to use in the D-Pillar because the back of the tweeter has more space to play with. This is if you choose to stick with the stock 4.7uF capacitor. Even these would probably fit (I'm not 100% sure because I don't have a wagon): http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=027-422 ^^^ The material (Polyprolyene) used in the capacitor is even better and more stable than the polyester material used in the tiny little capacitor I choose for the dash.
