whoa that is a crazy exhaust system man..so many bends...

lol isn't that heavy?  i'm sure it'll stiffen up the car but it looks like its enough piping to be 100 pounds

It'll be worth it ;)

I am doing the same to my little projectcar: a 440 Turbo with als a stripped interior.

Pro's: less weight

Con'"s : difficult to get a ticket when you are parking your car in a garage or at a tolloffice ;-)

Why not get a CF hood also? They are 19kgs lighter than the original one.

I know a place where you can get them....

A light and simple solution for the front windows would be a sliding up and down with a strap and a button to hold in place like on early british sports cars

As for carbon fibre hoods, carbon fibre is an excellent heat insulator, which would not be the best idea for his under hood temperature problems. Freeskier on this board used a thermo probe and observed over 20 degree temperature increase on his cylinder head after installing the hood so I wouldn't advise it for volvflo's car

Thanks all. The thing IS gonna be as stiff as hell. The double X-Construction will hold up very well.

As for the weight: this steel is freaking expensive. 100 feet of tubing cost close to 900 EUR. the car will be equipped with ~26m (85ft) of tubing of different sizes (60mm for the rear strut brace, 45mm for the B-A-Column connection AFAIR)

Total weight incl the strut tower connection and bracing will be 48kg (so that 100lbs guess wasnt that bad ;) )

But still this is extraordinary steel of the breed 25CrMo4:

just imagine 1m weighing in at only 1.5 kgs!!! (3ft ~ 3.5 pounds) of course that depends on diameter and wallthickness.

The steel has a tensile strenght of over 800 N/mm², exceedind DMSB german touring car demands by over 100%. (350 N/mm²)

Also, Florian, ready for an interview soon? ;)

I am really looking forward for the last weekend of April: I will be attending on a three day course on Nürburgring and learn EVERYTHING about the track, at the same time i get my National-A-license for touring car racing.

further things are planned then with real racing (youngtimertrophy featuring vintage cars like HEICO SPORTIV's Volvo 240 Turbo.)

Unfortunately there is no real championship i could use the 850 for..... I have to wait a bit.

So we will probably buy a Golf GTI I or II , which quite easy and cost-efficient to maintain in Germany. Also there is much know-how and racing parts available....

it has to be said, Florian, when you do something you do go all the way ;)

THANKS. :) Jan, any plans for the first or second weekend April? Its Kick off time Nürburgring. Toni and Thomas will be there both of them with new cars. Thomas is really making a big secret out of it. But i am guessing he has bought a totally gutted Golf II GTI 16V or perhaps even 1.8T re-engined. If that thing is then chiptuned he is going to make circles around me.....

Florian

sure I usually can make time at weekends :) Canr wait to be @ the Ring again, it has been much too long! Cant wait to see your car too.

I remember Thomas was pretty interested in gutted Golfs, whatever he gets its probably going to be fast (especially with him in it)

I have better tires now compared to that crap Falken Ziex, and I should have moderately better brakes by then too! And a 3" catless downpipe. But the Ring still scares the *lala* out of me when i do it in my own precious car :(

edit : Toni got a new car???
