Mesoam
whats the deal with the 01 trans's failing? is it much like the s80's where failure is basically inevitable or is it preventable with proper maintenance? also i've heard about modifying the fluid pressure to improve the gear-tronic shifting characteristics, has anyone done that here? The valve body design is garbage. That along with poor programming from the factory has given these a reputation This problem went on until some time in 02. Failure on AWD units is higher, but many exhibit very poor shift quality. Best choice is to go 03 and up. Isn't that a gm tranny? I know the o4r gt is a gm tranny The 04R GT tranny is a 5spd aisen warner unit. GM trannies were only installed on 6 cyl engines.
Chilled man
The 04R GT tranny is a 5spd aisen warner unit. GM trannies were only installed on 6 cyl engines. / on the XC90 and S80s with proper maintence , fluid changes , newer software you shouldnt have any issues the 01 I had was mint I got it at 32,000 miles and had the software change and everything else done as soon as I got it. My uncles has 190,000 miles + and hes never had a isssue both 01T5 only tranny issue I have seen is on the 02XC but that had 220,000 on it so ... oh and my 01XC that had 165,000 when it went

The wifes C70 has one its pretty neat

Chilled man
Where should said tranny cooler go Justin? where you would put a FMIC in or if you have a FMIC put it up behind the grill those would be the two most optimum placement areas.
