FAST850R
Hello, Where can I order OEM factory roof rack for my 1996 850r? How do I install roof rack system on the car? Does Volvo have a holes for roof rack, like Saab? Any advice will be helpful. Thank you.

gilber33
Open the doors and you'll see holes for the mounting feet for the roof rack. ;)
matt b
Wagon or sedan, it's the same part (as long as you don't have factory roof rails, which is only an option on wagons). I think it's the same rack that fits all the way through 2000. Open the doors and you'll see the holes like someone already said. The Thule racks fit our cars, they even have Volvo written on the bracket covers. Here' a pic of one on my car. I bought trays from Rocky Mounts since they're better and cheaper than OEM. Search Craigslist and Ebaymotors, the racks come on often and are cheap, usually less than $120, shipped. PM me if you need specific details and I'll post them here in this thread. gilber33
Damn, I think 850s were meant to have roof racks. They look so good on these cars.

krn
The rack that fits our 1995 850 wagon does not fit my 1998 S70 sedan. The sedan has the door frame mount points in a different spot then the wagon. I'm not sure if it is an 850 vs. 70 series thing or a sedan vs. wagon. The cross bars we have do have an image of a wagon on them, though (implying they are specific to wagons). So bars for a wagon might not fit a sedan. Note I did make them fit both by cutting the front bar and adding my own bolt-in insert (sedan mount point is wider) using some aluminum stock. So I can extend the bar to be wider. That was worth the work (for me) to have a set of bars that fit both. But you should probably confirm the ones you need are for a sedan. Also, with a long thule storage bin the rear trunk might bang against it when opened. I have some paint scuffing on the rear trunk deck as a result. krn
