FAST850R
Hi, I got check engine light 2 weeks ago. A mechanic pulled the code and reset it for me. It came back a few days later. So since the code indicated VSS, I replaced it and tried to reset the code by disconnecting the battery. As soon as I started the engine, the light was still there. I took my car to Autozone, and they don't do OBD II code service anymore. I don't want to take it to a shop and paid $20 to reset the code. Is there any other way to reset the light? Also, I sometimes get tracs off and ABS light, but it goes away by itself. Does this mean time for rebuild ABS module?
FAST850R
Or, can anyone recommend me an OBD II code reader? I might just buy one and reset the light myself. I found it but the price range is from $29~$200. Thanks.
the commissar!
how long did you leave the battery discon...it takes a while for the memory to fade... If you plan on working on this or any OBDII car it is worth the investment.

When I look at the car from the front, I look down the battery, and I disconnected the one on the left.
Bah
idk if this works on OBDII cars, but on the 93 the 5 flicks to position 2 and on the fifth flick start the car, works to reset tranny codes(OBDI atleast...) Give it a shot, otherwise i guess just leave the battery undone longer?

If it doesn't work, I will disconnect the battery longer, then if it doesn't work, I will buy an OBDii reader.
(n)A-GAME
Batt needs to be disconnected for at least 15 minutes iirc to reset codes. But the better question is why you're getting the code in the first place? Are you sure the work was done properly? But +1 to the suggestion that you buy a code reader. You can pick up a decent Actron for $30 on Amazon.

I need to reset the check engine light so I make sure VSS working properly. Anyway, I am sure I disconnected the battery more than 20min, but it didn't reset the light. It reset everything though, clock, radio, and alarm.
Volvo5.0
What year is the car? 96 and later, then it probably is the abs/tracs module.
brick-a-brac
You need to make good friends with someone who has the Volvo Scan Tool, or luck out on eBay and snag the occasional one that comes up for sale (be prepared to pay north of a grand for it, though). Many of the commercially available OBDII readers cannot clear system codes other than engine and emissions.
Volvo5.0
I've got a VST, but it looks like you're a long way from Md. :)

That would be the hot wire...shouldn't you pull the ground...I can never remember so I do both when I need the power off the car. You could also just pull the module. Then it is cold for sure. Also as said you need to fix that problem not just reset the light. Hopefully you have it worked out by now...
