Installing A Second Amp

Thanks for the pointers. :) I got the amp installed yesterday, it sounds pretty good. B) Since I have a wagon I'm thinking about building a new subwoofer box that will fit in the recess behind the rear wheel well. I can then mount the amp to that. Unfortunately I've never built a sub box so I'm going to have to do some reading up on how to do it right.

Box-building isn't too tough, just make sure to measure the internal volume correctly so the sub sounds right. I use this calculator for my boxes:

DON'T MOUNT THE AMP TO THE SUB BOX!! too much vibration isn't good for the amp, and can damage your amp.

If its a sealed box (based on you're mounting location, I'll assume so) I'd recommend 3/4" MDF, fasten with 1.25" coarse-thread drywall screws (pre-drill and countersink the holes, MDF splits easy) and seal it up all nice with some silicone. pretty simple stuff.

Take a look at the learning section on Crutchfield, very useful stuff!

Here's my set-up. I have a .8 cu. ft. sealed box, and I can still open/use the 3rd row seat/spare tire area if I need to.

All good advice, but I'd also suggest a good wood glue in addition to the screws.

Strong box = Strong Bass! ;)

Actually, now that you mention it, I might've glued my box..not sure, it was too long ago (15 months haha) to remember monkey.gif

Either way, very good advice.

Also, a good way to check to see if the box is sealed tightly is to press downwards on the sub once its installed, and if it comes back to the "neutral" position slowly, you have a very tightly sealed box.
