Going Cat-Less

Recommended Posts

ALright so I am in the midst of putting on my obx system and am curious as to the rear o2 sensor and the CEL that will come along wwith it...what are some solutions? Spacers?

Also I cant seem to get my rear o2 sensor out of the old pipe...but I have an extra front o2 sensor, can I jsut extend the wires on that and use that as my rear o2 sensor? same sensor, just a difference in wire length?

Thanks everyone

The old rear O2 will come out mark the 2 same colored wires with diffrent colors of tape or something to tell them apart, cut the wires and slide a box wrench over the sensor and use a pipe or something for leverage and you should be good. Use some PB blaster and let it soak for a while.

Then extend the wires because it won't reach the rear bung so it needs to be cut and extended anyway.

I run catless and over the first year I only had codes show up twice with no spacer. Since I installed a 16T and R mani it seems to pop up more often. I might buy a spacer just so I don't have to worry about it but I have a scanner so it only takes a minute to clear it..... Plus I'm super lazy

pretty sure you are simply one of the lucky ones...

the only way to make sure it doesn't come back is to have it removed from the ECU coding, normally accomplished with a tune

IPD sells an O2 spacer called the CELboss. I've run it for almost 2 years now w/o a code.

spend 5$ at any advanced or autozone and get 2 spark plug defoulers 18mm. same thread as 02 sensor. take a 1/2" dia drill bit i believe, bore 1 of the 2 out, screw them together, install 02 to the "spacer" screw spacer into 02 bung. i did it its cheap an just as good as a 30+ $ spacer because thats all it really is in the first place

Mine is ziptied to the undercarrige, not in a stream, and no cel's. It hits speed bumps sometimes though because some idiot chopped the hell out of my springs.

Well I do have a cat(magnaflow 3" spun SS) but it used to throw a code every 200 miles.....after celboss....no worries.

I bought one of these, less than 10$ shipped and it's stainless so I have a prayer in getting it out if I need to.

has anyone heard of an O2 simulator? My friend's 02 is300 has been catless for over a year now w/o a CEL and the shop installed what I believe is called an O2 simulator

That's the best way to handle it but most of them are model specific to just plug in and send a predetermined voltage back to the ECU. I'm sure with a bit of investigation you could find one that would work and just splice it in.
