drill a hole in the player, in the back of it, then, put a screw in there, then, connect a 14 gauge wire to it, and connect it the the mp3 player. It should work now, just mask every naked wire with electrical tape. :D

i thought i'd give a few more details for you in case you're interested. here's what I wrote to another in a PM

Hey. it is not possible to just unplug the cd changer and plug in an ipod into the head unit. The head unit will only allow audio in from that plug if it is able to talk to a cd changer. that is why the aux-input modules are a bit more complicated, they have to simulate the operation of the cd changer. Because yo already have a changer, you don't need to simulate it. all you have to do is find the wires in the cable that carry the audio signal and splice a switch into them. Then, the HU talkes to your changer and you can use the switch (dpdt) to switch between the changer audio and an ipod audio. There are fancier solutions, but that is the cheapest, and one you could do yourself with a soldering iron and an hour to burn. The plug on the back of the radio is similar to an 8-pin mini din plug, but it has a proprietary pin spacing, so you won't be able to get a typical plug to work. They have to be manufactured specifically for the volvo radios.

BTW, I make aux-in adapters that are dual but do not require a switch.

drlava,

I'm interested in the aux-in adapters that you make. Could you please give me more info? How do they install? Would I be able to run cable to the console? I have a '98 S70. I don't know much, so your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, they are installed by plugging into the back of the radio where the CD changer would plug in. There is also a single wire that you have to splice in (using ELECTRICAL TAPE and a ZIP TIE or other equivalent safe method ;) to the 12V line for power. The 12 V wire is easy to find behind the radio and I will give all instructions. The dual input module has two stereo RCA style plugs for line level audio input. The aux input is selected by pressing CD on the radio. You switch between the aux inputs by pressing pause, then 6 (Disc 6).

*edit* there are many ways to run line cable to the console from your sources, it's not hard at all in 850s to run a wire from the back of the radio to the passengers side, I imagine it's not too hard in later models, just a matter of fishing around for the right path and maybe removing a panel or so.
