t-townS70
I just came back from a visit at the Avondale, AZ campus of UTI. It looks very impressive and they have told me alot about professionalism and job placement rate. The fact of the matter is I want to be a tech and I need to know which school will be the best place for me? I know there are a couple tech's in the NWC crew like Danny and Brian, Can you guys give me a little advice?
KN'C96850R
I went to uti. better placement rate. better programs for brand specific minded people. aka Toyota, Nissan, and Diesel. They focus more on the "wave of the future" dealership type diagnosis, instead of throwing parts at a car to see what the problem is. A lot of people complain about uti not being enough "hands on" and not getting dirty enough. If u diagnose a problem right the first time, you wont have to get your hands that dirty anyways. If you want to have a lot of fun in school and have unrealistic dreams of opening up a speed shop, go to wyotech. if u want a serious career as a technical position at a dealership, go to uti. but do your research and make sure you go to a school that properly prepares you for your ase's. dmelviØØ7
From my personal experience WyoTech is a better school. I went there as did another co-worker. Not to toot my own horn, but we are the best 2 techs in the shop. There are also to guys who went to UTI and then Volvo's SAFE school and they don't seem to be doing as well as Dan and I, we actually let one go last week. I know this is a biased opinion, but it gives you an idea. WyoTech has a better reputation with Ravenna Motors
Austin H
From my experience people who went to Wyotech are heavy drinkers. My buddy Alex who went for Collision and Danny who drank enough beers to get his own bar stool.
t-townS70
Thanks for your input, I was really impressed with UTI's Avondale campus and going to UTI seems to be the best option for me right now considering all of their manufacturer specific programs...Im not pushing Wyotech all they way out though danny :)

WyoTech has a better reputation with Ravenna Motors If we go based off my experience with these 2 schools and technicians who attended them, I would say Wyotech is the place to go ... Now that being said, I graduated from Bellingham Technical College's automotive program and have been successful in my automotive career as a master tech and now service manager thus far (some might debate that ). As much as a good school makes a difference, attitude, initiative, maturity, motivation to suceed as well as the ability to continue learning are all key atributes in becoming a sucess. I have seen a lot of techs graduate from school who think they are too good to do oil changes/services and believe they should be on the frontline diagnosing driveability issues and doing complex jobs. Humility is key after graduation. Don't walk into a dealer (or any repair shop) expecting to be treated as a master tech, school is a building block that can be used to acheive sucess, but there is no subsitute for hands on experience. Like any job, there is a steep learning curve once you get out into the real world that no school can prepare you for. That's my 2 cents - hope it helps.
