Don't Ask Don't Tell

Don't ask Don't tell has been the policy of the US military for 11 years now. At the time they changed the policy I was 18 and thought that it was the correct move. Remember, at that time women still were not allowed to server in combat positions. (no pun intended)

To me any person that wants to put their life at risk for the service of our country should have the oppertunity to do so. Whether they are gay, women, black etc. At one time or another each one of those groups was barred from service.

One of the reasons the US military does not allow gays is they feel that they will reduce the moral of the soldier. Which is basically the same reason they denied women the right. They said that a male soldier would fold in combat at the sight of a female soldier dead or wounded.

Different type of moral loss, but none the less a loss of moral.

To be politically correct :D. I am not a person of alternative lifestyle but I also don't think that I would be botherd by them being there. There were Homo's at my High School. There were Homo's at my college. There are even flaming Homo's at my work. So, if I were in the military why shouldn't there be Homo's there too?

By saying Homo I mean Homosexual. Not fag, queer, peter puffer, pillow biter, nancy boy, flamer or queen.

So, what do you guys think? Do you think that Gays belong in the military?

I don't really care about gays in the military, but I do think that women shouldn't be on the battlefield.

Right on. Gay = fine by me. Women = Canada

I liked this mans army. Not the new one. War is about killing people. Nothing else, and we have lost focus. At the same time the PT test needs to be way harder. I can pack 100 pounds 12 miles in 3 hours. I can also carry a 200 pound person 400 meters in under 3 minutes. If you cannot, you should not see combat. If I am shot in the leg and you cannot carry me because your a fat weak :lunchbox: I'm gonna shoot you in the leg.

Don't forget the other part of war: Breaking other people's things before they break yours. The PT requirements were fairly rigorous when I was in the Navy, but then again there is only so far you need to cary a wounded person on a ship. :) If a person can cary me 400 meters and then shoot the enemy in the center of mass without hesitating then I'm ok with them being in combat. If they can't then I don't care what sex they are and Charles is right they shoudn't be in combat duty. There are tons of other positions in the armed forces.

Notice how some California schools are using Don't as Don't tell to try and kick ROTC off campus because it might hurt peoples feelings.
